with a 6800vanilla? it will be close - GPU Comparison w/ BF2 - being this close to 30fps would make me a little worried...

1280 with 4xAA and 8x AF look good even on a 32" monitor and then a 3000+ CPU and 6800GT will do fine. I run in 1024 or 1280 on a widescreen 32" LCD, battlefield wont run at native 1368 HD widescreen res (which is annoying) buts I have a naff CPU running at 1024 is fine with AA.

Lots of people seem to buy a stonking GPC then run on a naff 17" LCD monitor. And decent 28-32" LCD's cost less than CPUS.

I'm possibly going to go for a 7800 GT SLI soon, but not sure if I might go for a 7800 GTX 512 single card. Waiting to see more posts about which is faster I'm still to be convinced SLI is not a pain in the arse most of the time.
can't you force it into that weird 1368x768 (or whatever it is) with the trick that use to be used to play it @ 1280x1024 before they put it in the options? but i am sure it looks good @ 1280x720. why go sli, as you really won't see any improvements if you are staying at that resolution.

as far as 2x7800gt vs 1x7800gtx 512, from what i have read with bf2, @ 1600x1200 and 4AA it will be very close because 1x7800gtx 512 at this setup hits ~66fps, where a 7800gt hits ~ 37(so about 74 if doubled). this was just one test i have viewed, but that 512MB vesion also changes other items like memory clock to 850MHz vs 600MHz with the 7800gtx and 500MHz w/ the 7800gt and core clock to 550MHz with the 7800gtx 512, 430MHz with regular gtx and 400MHz with gt.

i would personally wait until the 7800gtx 512 comes down in price in ~6mos then get one if they are what you would consider reasonable. again, though playing at 1280x720 i don't think you will notice much over your 7800gt.
