    Sniping takes "talent" ??? Bull****!

    I never play sniper. Ever.

I have before but for very short stints just to pick off some annoying snipers that wont get a clue.

Anyway, so tonight i was bored and decided to go for the Basic Badges first in the kits i dont have them yet. (i play almost exclusive Assault/Spec Op, so i dont have many badges for others)

So i get the sniper basic combat badge (10 kills) in the first 10 minutes of the game

I hit 3 guys running sideways, a few standing up, a few laying down, and a couple i just ran around a corner and put one in their chest.

About half from a couple hundred meters atleast.

I have to say, im dissapointed. Sniping took SOME skill in 42 since you had the windage sights and all.

    Summary= BF2 sniping takes 0 talent.

    Point, Shoot, Dead.

Sniping does take skill, its not point and shoot. Dont get all ****ed off because one killed you. A sniper like me you have to have plenty of skill. How far is the person, how far will the bullet drop, thats why we lose the numbers on the crosshair, its fair from easy. Taking shots from 100 yards or more are hard not easy. And we even have to reload once, only if we dont kill on the first shot, because any reason. I get alot of headshots, but alot of people have a bar or two down and one shot anywhere on them and their dead. You have a fully automatic gun, you cant shoot us before we snipe you. Thats not are fault, thats your fault and tons of people are pretty good taking snipers. Which when I am spec ops I take them out. So dont come on here ranting because one or two killed your sorry ass.

      Bullpoop!

I am utterly useless as a sniper, thus it must require some sort of skill (that I don't have).

Easy way to get badges - pick a kit you need, jump into a helicopter gun and go for the win!

Even easier to get 'em by going commander and artillerizing everything on the field.

I got my basic sniper badge unexpectantly this way. I tend to go sniper when I'm command because the suit helps me to hid, I can secure my poition with claymores, and I can still take potshots at people trying to cap local flags.

Please do take note of my SINGLE bloody kill with the sniper rifle tho! Feel free to laugh. I always do.

Im not complaning about them killing me.....as its not THAT often. But when US takes the north end flag, the other team seems to enjoy being ALL snipers and sitting on the little hill picking us off. The easiest way to counter that is simply get an M95/24 to the face.

The point is....the first time i actually put effort into being a sniper, i pwned pretty quickly.....meaning the kit=takes no skill.

If it did, i probably would have needed a longer learning curve....as im only about average, and nothing spectacular.

Sorry but no. You can't do it that way because arty doesn't count as kills any more, just commander points. It's been like that since 1.03. Nope you have to get them the old fashion way, kill 15(or ten for sniper) people. ANd yes it does take skill so for that I respect all snipers(except the morons that lay claymores in stupid places, but I never punish anyway).

Maybe you've just got the touch, but I doubt it. You probably just got lucky. Like ChaseVernando said it just takes skill.

I hate ta break it to ya, but yes... it still works.
                  Works in SF too.
I got my Assualt Specialist badge from going commander. I know I didn't get 10 kills because I was too busy hiding after our previous commander had bailed out.

It doesn't count as kills in reguards to your score, but it still counts towards badges.

I'd say that sniping take skill, and im sure anyone that has tried to shoot at people that aren't sitting perfectly still from atop a hill or cliff would agree. You need to be able to aim and take into account distance and elevation and stuff

Huh? Is that a real word? If not, it should be. I like it...artillerizing...has a nice ring to it.

Anyway, I believe that sniping (in the full sense of the term) actually does take skill. Sure, anyone can drop a target from a distance. I did it regularly in BF1942 with a pistol, but the art of sniping isn't just the kill.

It takes skill to conceal yourself well in the brush, picking your targets carefully so as to not draw attention to your hiding spot. It takes experience to know when and where to drop claymores (along paths that the enemy takes almost exclusively, and not around your teams vehicles). It takes learned patience to stay still, observe, report, and wait for the perfect target to present itself.

Then there's the matter of knowing your weapon, at which all good snipers have made the effort. An SVD isn't suited for high precision shots, but it's useful against moving targets. The M24 is great for nailing those hard to hit tangos but (generally speaking) it's useless against moving targets. And then there's the Chinese sniper rifle...of which I know nothing about.

Do you know what a sniper is called? A scout, and guess what? That's their primary purpose! They are to observe the enemy and report his movements; all the while remaining nothing more than a ghost to his adversaries. It takes skill to prioritize targets, as well as to know in what situations to act and in what situations to not act.

So, in response to your statement, you are correct. If all that sniping entailed was hitting a target at long range; but being a sniper takes far more skill.

Side note: I have rarely, if ever been a sniper. Most that I meet are fairly...um...childish. But I have seen a good sniper in action, and they have earned my respect.

So would that commander then become an Artillerizor?
