Successfully hitting people with those incredibly lame sniper rifles takes at least some skill.

That said, I think the sniper kit is a piece of sh!t. People who use it should try a carbine sometime, and then revel in real accuracy AND the C4 option.

I recon the kit gives another kind of fun to the game. I personally don't mind waiting somewhere for an enemy vehicle to come by and then nail the gunner or driver with my M95(on my rf8406 acc.(459K/193D)). Also, I like shooting at flag-capping BHs and taking potshots on their passengers:), very satisfying if you havent tried it.

It's a kit that I use when I dont feel like running in the meatgrinders areas and think it bring a nice alternative way of playing BF2/BF2SF.

If it takes talent? Kinda, since you have to restrain yourself from runnin in with your guns blazing. Accurate shooting - it's a piece of a big fat chocolate cake imo.

Often I find that "talent" is just you being able to click your mouse faster than the other guy. Some people just are 'Natural borne mouse clickers' and like to refer to themselfes as 'natural born 1337 killerz'

I quite enjoy sniping. However my favourite mission is counter sniping. I love sniping other snipers.

My weapon of choice is the M24, then the Chinese Type 88, then the SVD then the M95.

Headshots on enemy snipers is fun. As is using claymores to blow people up. I've got a 5:1 kill death ratio with the claymores.

            However it takes little skill.

I've never noticed any significant ammount of bullet drop.

You only need to lead your targets by a minute ammount, and you can generally see the enemy before they see you.

My favourite fun after counter-sniper work is shooting gunners out of vehicles. THIS is harder, and requires a small ammount of skill, but not much more.

One thing though, I don't "pride" myself in being a sniper as some people do. I mean yu haven't gone through sniper training. You aren't a real sniper. Yu are playing a game. Some people get way het up about it :)

true skill with the sniper kit is killing people and they dont even know how they died til they look at the top of the screen and see m24 next to their name.

being a sniper and people not discovering your location thats the true art and with uav its not always so easy

I takes more skill in Joint Ops, but in BF2 good snipers use clays and kill alot and don't get killed and change to engineer to fix commander toys when needed. Having a good sniper on your team can really help as he picks off medics then entire squads on his own and then fecks off and hides while and angry mod hunts him.

Bad snipers sit on building tops and never move.

Skill being a snipe is being able to shoot poeple point blank with a barret while jumping or using clays to kill APCS or jeeps or putting clays on heli pads.

Try playing a sniper and making 20 kills and not getting killed in that round.

I think you've all pretty much missed the point so far. Yes sniping is easy if all you're looking at is a kill:death ratio but it is hard to have much of an influence on the game and get many teamwork points without risking your (virtual) life.

So, in response to your statement, you are correct. If all that sniping entailed was hitting a target at long range; but being a sniper takes far more skill.

Side note: I have rarely, if ever been a sniper. Most that I meet are fairly...um...childish. But I have seen a good sniper in action, and they have earned my respect.
I am one of these afore mentioned snipers!!! if there was an award for spotting enemy targets i would have the expert badge lol but i dont go stupid and just clog up the map and chat bars!! that really annoys me:evil:

Anyway, so tonight i was bored and decided to go for the Basic Badges first in the kits i dont have them yet. (i play almost exclusive Assault/Spec Op, so i dont have many badges for others)

So i get the sniper basic combat badge (10 kills) in the first 10 minutes of the game

I hit 3 guys running sideways, a few standing up, a few laying down, and a couple i just ran around a corner and put one in their chest.

About half from a couple hundred meters atleast.

I have to say, im dissapointed. Sniping took SOME skill in 42 since you had the windage sights and all.

                      Summary= BF2 sniping takes 0 talent.

                      Point, Shoot, Dead.
You have a .63 Kill Ratio with the sniper kit!!!

How is that PWNING? If that is pwnd, then I guess I uber pwn.

People are always being ****ed off at the snipers, kicking them out of squads etc.

BUT, there are 2 kinds of snipers, the ones that just camp back and wait for an enemy, or the ones that stay with their squad and provide long-range cover from enemys. The sniper is also a pretty good dolphin-zoom-fire weapon if you are quick enough.

Re: Sniping takes "talent" ??? Bull****!

Perfect example of how a good sniper can be extremely valuable:

Fushe Pass, USMC side. Our team was bad, but I had alot of clan members in my squad. The Chinese had taken the first base (nearest to USMC uncap spawn). The Chinese side had half their squad spawning as AT and the rest were jumping into the two APCs there, which when you combined the two, made it nearly impossible for any USMC vehicle to approach without instantly getting torched.

So I spawn as sniper, jump in a buggy and wait for the APC/AA/Tank to approach the base. I then as fast as possible drove as high and close to the base on the left as I could, and started to work. I was able to make the AT guys seek cover/look for sniper (shot around 12 in a few minutes), which allowed our tanks/apc to focus on the other sides armour. I was also able, from my position, to report their exact locations.

We went from getting raped as we even approached the base, to quickly taking it back, and entirely reversing the battle. Having a sniper that can keep AT/Spec OPS heads down is invaluable, I just wish they'd give the sniper some points for calling out enemy locations, since a sniper's usual primary role is as recon (kind of like the commander does for doing the same with scan results). But that is where the 'skill' comes in, being a sniper is much more than just shooting...

WOW. ONE kill a minute. You are really a sharpshooter.

You are'nt even a skilled sniper. You're just a random who shot people. Take out 2 or more people with each m24 clip for 10 mins then come back and say it's easy.

Also remember to move with the front line, or get behind the front line, and also be able to cap flags and use your pistol too.

Personally, I have seem some "talented" snipers.

They dont hide ALL MATCH LONG.

They will move with their squad/team, while laying kind of low doing so. Pick off people coming to intercept the team/squad. While viewing ahead for obstacles.

The "snipers" that **** me off arent what i would call a "sniper"

Its the ******* who, instead of growing a pair and trying to capture a flag, will just lay in a bush a 100 or so meters off a CP and just continuously spam the M95 fire everywhere. Unfortunately they are usually just out of range of 99% of the other weapons in the vicinity, so generally all you can do is spawn as a sniper and take them out.

I have a ****ty K/D with sniper because i never play it, and at times i pick up a sniper kit just to have ammo and i bust out the pistol to get maybe 1 kill before i die, if that. The pistol is hard to assault with.
