Getting my new (used) NVIDIA 6800GT 256mb card today, will it make a difference, replacing my 128MB 6600? Or is my real problem my system memory (I only have 1GB). This game is the biggest hog I have ever seen, Linux doesn't even waste memory as bad as this game (and it is atrocious), I would swear it has a memory leak issue.....except it never consumes to a freeze/crash.

What experience do you have with yours (obviously please only answer if you have the 6800GT)...

i dont own a 6800GT, but one of my friends has a BFG 6800 ultra 256MB, his game still crashes randomly. but he can run it with all the high settings and AA/AF on.

I have the 6600gt 128 and dont have a problem really. I think it froze up on me once or twice, but I also had outlook open in the background. I have an AMD64 3500+ and 2 gig of ram, so that may be what helps me out with my game. I keep everything at mid level, and throw distance view on max, and it runs pretty nice as long as i have a low ping.

Still, Im looking into getting a new mobo with SLI and either another 6600gt or seeing if I can run a 6800gt with my 6600gt, or just getting the 7800gt. Right now, Im in debt out my eyeballs, and dont wanna get any deeper.

It seems that especially 6800 series card owners are screwed, now after the 1.12 patch. All major BF2 forums are full of people complaining that BF2 ran smooth with their 6800 (GT) and now are only getting about 15 fps in most situations.
I also got a 6800 GT, and the very same happened to me. BF2 ran like a charm pre 1.12, now I only get <20 fps. Hopefully, a new hotfix will come out soon, only then many 6800 card owners will be able to play normal again.

I moved from an ATi 9600 Pro 128Mb to a NVidia GeForce 6800GT 256mb and it works a lot better. I still don't run everything on high because I prefer performance over quality... Resolution is at 1280x1024 on a P4 2.8Ghz with 2Gb RAM.

Since the latest BF2 patch I have noticed that occasionally it gets a little laggy but nothing to moan about. I did update ForceWare to 81.95, which seemed to help a bit...

I have a 6800gt card and it runs great, changed to 1024x768, 2xAA, and get 70-80 fps on BF2 maps, 50-70 fps, on SF Maps. Was not affected by the 1.12 patch at all. Only changed from 1280x1024, and 4xAA.

I am running a 6800GT 256 and have not had a drop in fps since installing 1.12, mines running fine on all maps.

Man I have the same as you and I'm not really sad with it...it has been running great..just get 2 gigs of mem and the drivers update(including sound) and the game will follow you..dont waste money in a 6800-"M8 advice offcourse" but if u have it spend it....its just a matter of maintenance... and u don't want to run the game all set in high, do you???

Must be a GT thing. I have the standard PCIe 6800 (256mb) and the game flies (40-50fps) in BF2SF.

I may be one of the lucky ones, and I do not doubt that there are those with issues.

My core processor is a P4 3.4ghz , additionally I have 2GB RAM @533 (pc5200?? dont recal right now). I've never crashed, lagged (On anything that could no tbe tied to net connection) or had glitches. I run the game on High with 4xAA and runs smooth. I can only imagine the GT would be better at this, but depending on the rest of the computer anything can happen.

You'll notice a big difference between a 6600GT 128 and a 6800GT 256. Overclock the 6800 to 400 core/1100 memory clock at least also...

My 6800GT runs fine. Fps has dipped a little in SF compared to BF2 (I still get average around 50 and up to 90) and 64 Iron Gator maps can drop to around 18fps when inside and lots of people are around, otherwise everything's hunky dory.

I have the same problem with my 6800gt and 2gb ram. However i use a p4 so it's crappy.

I have the 6800GT and LOVE it. You will too. Everything is set to high on 1280x1024 with 4x AA. Get more memory (2 gigs is great, 1.5gigs [i]should[/] let you run all high settings though)

I have a 6800GT and i love this card it runs BF2 smooth i can run it on high with AAx4 on and it runs smooth but i like to run it all on medium just because i really cant tell the diffence
