    Re: Community Update!!! 11/30/05

No it uses audio from several movies and songs without written permission. It's the equivilant of a mashup. Since it's free and a parody, on it's own, no one's going to get in trouble (they wouldn't even if it went to court). But as soon as EA gave it's official blessing on the movie, it would be seen as free advertising of sorts.

Remember the F.E.A.R. videos? Hilarious. When I saw those I thought, "man, I hope the rest of the game is like that!" and it got me really interested in learning more about the game. They were free and funny but had nothing to do with what the game actually is. Quite the opposite in fact. But they were advertising.

Now if EA released MINE they'd get sued unless they had written permission from every source of the audioclips. Even by mentioning it, they link themselves to it and open a doorway to a slew of problems. I didn't know about MINE until EA mentioned it. I'm sure that I'm not the only one, so that means dozens/hundreds etc have now seen it as a result of EA's advertisement that hey like/condone it.

I'm not saying movies like MINE are bad. I'm just saying that as soon as EA encourages copyright infringement in it's name, it's just asking for trouble. Hell, that alone could be the reason they pulled it. They might not have put it back up because they're waiting to see if Google got a cache or if mirrors/screenshots start showing up.

<del> Bah! don't ask me a question and then remove your post! It makes me look stupid =P </del>

Edit: Nevermind. I made my own self look like an idiot. Why is it that some forums update to the front of the forum and some to the back? On my end, it updated my response to just after you saying that it might have been a hack. Then I freaked out thinking someone deleted everything after that (including my own post and then my followups). Then I refreshed and THAT post was gone, and all of a sudden there was a "next page" button.

yeah, I didn't think of the politics of the movie because I don't play online (I've tried but 2 out of 5 times I'm not allowed in and the rest of the time the servers are so full of nonesense rules and even once I get to play it's just pure chaos. There doesn't seem to be any order, just people going ape and respawning all the time, dopplers all over the place making really annoying sounds, and server text filling up half the screen).

I'm going to go watch MINE again. It's hilarious...

huh. The speculation ends? And it doesn't appear to have been changed at all. Very strange.

A weapon with no scope sway, and virtually no delay to raise the scope cannot be made 1S1k. You think the noob tube is easy to use? Stop, think, and imagine what your advocating - morons.

Once a target was aquired, all a player would have to do with such a weapon is insta-prone, fire, repeat. Mindless, skilless kills at any range. At least with the grenade launcher you have to predict the arc!

A weapon such as this should only be fireable from the prone posistion, would should take time to get into. (Right now proning is faster and more useful than crouching.) The scope should take time to bring up and center, and should drift when moved. Reload time should be longer than it is now, for balance's sake.

ONLY once these other limitations have been placed on a sniper weapon can it be implemented in such a game.
