Some clarification about making SF maps or using SF content in BF2 maps

    Hello,

I have been seeing a lot of posts about this lately, so instead of explaining the same thing over and over and over again in every thread, i have decided to make this topic.

You are NOT allowed to use ANY Special Forces content even the smallest object in your BF2 map. You also can not make Special Forces map because BF2 editor is not compatible with SF maps (night vision etc.). They are saying there will be a SF editor coming out, but i doubt it will be in the near future. So, for now, you really can not do anything with what you paid $30 for. And when the SF editor does come out, i am sure there will be some restrictions. I know it sucks but if you don't want EA suing you, you shouldn't touch SF content right now.

Here is a quote from LBrown from EA's BF2 editor forum

As has always been with every "Battlefield" game, and as has been stated here, Dice does not allow you to mix assets between mods. (the retail game and the Expansion are both considered "mods").

This means you cannot put assets from Special Forces into BF2 maps and Vice-Versa.

The basic reason behind this is that if someone just takes all the assets from the expansion pack and puts them into maps for retail BF2 so that you can play with all the new stuff without actually buying the expansion, then those that actually paid for it are being cheated.

this is same for everything. And primarily custom maps. You cannot make a custom BF2 map that has SF stuff in it like the armies, new vehicles, etc.

do you know how SF will effect mods? i dont really know how to word this but lets say a mod is using SF content yet you yourself (lets say a mapper) doesnt have SF but your team is making a mod off it. are you allowed to use SF things?

          no.

Let me put it this way, the only way you can use SF content (and i am sure there will be restrictions on this one too) is if you make a SF map which only people who has SF will be able to play. You can not use night vision, the hook, zip line, the armies, new vehicles, and any other stuff in your mod or in your map(BF2 vanilla). EA is very strict about this, this was the case for other expansions in the past for BF42 and BFV and its the same for BF2

Okay, I still need some help with this. If I convert, say, Karkand so that it has the SF armies and it is ONLY PLAYABLE WITH SF, is that illegal too?

No its not. Read my first post and read what LBrown says "vice-versa".

Re: Some clarification about making SF maps or using SF content in BF2 maps

What if I make a Bf2 map(Map A), a really big one, and then the parts of the city that were originally off bounds in Map A become the open area to my second map(Map B). So in Map B, map A area of combat is closed off, and Map B is just unclosed combat area that was originally closed in Map A.
Map A's entire body, textures and all of the buildings were made for BF2.<O:p</O:p

However Map B now implements Special Forces equipment and uses some new Special Forces Building models. But, Map B is made for Special Forces users only, while Map A is used for original BF2 users only. With that said, those who have Special Forces and have downloaded the patch can play both Map A and Map B.
But the original Battlefield was on BF2 models.

Am I to assume I haven't crossed legal boundaries because you can't play Map B without owning Special Forces?<O:p</O:p

Wow....that confuses the hell outta me. Are you saying that the 2 maps would eb played simultaneously or that depending on which game you're launching would depend on which part of the map you could play at that time?

I think the bottom line is.....either you make a vanilla map with only vanilla objects and assets .........or........you make a special forces map with only those objects and assets. Seems pretty clear to me. Don't wanna go getting Lawrence and the DICE guys mad at us.

Yeah the second one. Depending on which game you play.
I guess I was just describing it, knowing you can fix it where your server can run an unranked bf2 map and then when that map is over, the next map you play after is an SF map. So I guess confusion happened when I described my problem assuming people would know what I'm talking about lol.

I kinda understand what you are saying, but you are still deadlocked. You can not make SF maps because the editor doesn't support it. I saw a community update today on EA's site, they are saying they will be releasing an "unsupported" new beta *caugh* alpha *caugh* version of the editor. But they will first release it to some selected mod teams (pirates of course to begin with) and in a few weeks they will release to public (i am guessing mid jan-beginning of february).

So far, you can't do anything with SF. that's that. There is nothing you can really do about it.

And the way i understand what you are saying having 2 different layers from 2 different mods, that's just not possible.

Why dont they just make it that if you have both vanilla bf2, and sf (legitimate paid for copies), then you can play maps with both in it? I mean alot of the sf maps have vanilla bf2 models in them. Or are they reused/recoded specifically for the mod?

                          Talk about udder stupidity!@!

                          Hahaha

On another topic what are the odds of getting a map of karkand and karkand 2 useable for sf?

Also, I find it interesting that ea has jsut broke its own rule by providing unlocks of sf weapons in bf2.

Not that I would be the one to try it but, I think they would be hard pressed to make a case against some one else doing something similar.

Either way I do not think I will ever buy another EA game again. If this is the way they treat thier customers then they will not get anymore of my money. As little as it is.

                          hehe

Actually that is not true. http://bfeditor.gotfrag.com/forums/v...=special+foces

I originally was just going to have a big map but by changing the out bounds I could effectively have 2-3 complete maps and make 16-32-64 versions of each map. But as SF grew closer and fear of popularity for the original BF2 falling apart I was going to make map 2 for special forces. thats all lol
like u.s forces fight and secure outside of city(first map), then special forces go deeper to fight of insurgents(second map). Just trying to give some history to all the maps I make.

I had seen that post before, its a workaround. But you still will not be able to implement many things. Like the night maps, night vision, or new fogs, new terrain textures and many other things. BF2 editor just doesn't implement SF mod completely. They probably used a different version of BF2 editor when designing it (or modified the editor). So if you follow those steps, what you will have is BF2 content and SF vehicles and armies that's all.
