Artillary is fine, it belongs in BF2.

Artillary does not belong in BF2SP.

No way most the time the SLs are to busy in the firefights to call out for arty...its hard enough calling out enemy spotted and need back up....

The commander is sitting back in his office looking over the intel deciding where to place supplies, UAVs, and yes ARTILLERY...well atleast this is what the Commander should be doing...and NO the Commander should not be running around the map doing anything else, he should only be COMMANDING....

Who is to say that a Special Forces team cant call in for a arty strike....I would almost bet you that Spec Ops in Afghanistan and Iraq have done this....

Do you realize some of the points that SL ask for artillery? Many ask me to artilley right where they are or where half of the team is present like in Karkand.

Why not just wait for the Dcon mod to come out and then you won't have the croppy unrealistic artillery anymore.

When I think of the Special Forces I think of stealth and catching the enemy by surprise not calling down Artillary and letting every one in town know your around.

That too, I once asked one SL why should I use arty there, and he replied me with: "So I can have a sense of realism"

not a bad idea but bf2 is not suppost to be a realism game. and this would also make alot of people not want to be commander.

                          Re: arty and realism

the only question for this idea: who gets the kills/tks? if all the team damages are granted to the commander (including the kills, altho they dont show up on the scoreboard), most SL would be reluctant to call arty, since they dont get any benefits from it while they have to take a few seconds to do it. On the other hand, the commander will get team damages for bad arty calls, which is not supposed to be commander's fault. if all the kills are given to the SL who calls arty, then every SL will abuse. They will just ask for artying any position that they are going to attack, even if there's no enemies, that'd be a huge waste of arty.

                            Re: arty and realism

How about an ammo limit on arty. This way the commander would or squad would have to be more selective.

                              1) Nix automated artillery altogether
                              2) Give Squad leaders a laser designator or a pair of spotting binoculars
                              3) Give jets a bomb payload or laser-guided missile payload that can only be launched when an SL issues a request.

SL identifies a target or area that needs cleaning, jet hears request and a waypoint pops up on the map, when jet gets within range the payload is armed and he can launch/drop it at/on target.

Would also work with player-controlled artillery or mortars ala DC/BFV.

Big boom, teamwork, plenty of checks and balances.
you're a genius. you take out words of my mouth :p

exactly what I want in BF2
