Nah it still allow the hopper to rule, in Rainbow there is no jumping so that makes it a better game because of it.

And I bet it is the mainly the prone jumpers/bunnyhoppers that are complaining, so I am going to switch to the hopper stopper (not a noob tube) whenever they show up in abundance. Of course they aren't on that much during the week or late at night because the kiddies are in bed then.

These forums have been like this since day one. It seems they allow just about anything and most of it is useless. They should just start a rant forum and move everything that is a rant there and keep the relevent stuff seperate. But that would involve agreat deal of time and effort on their part to even clear out the crap that's here now.

true, when the game starts @ karkand all your here are m203's and gp 30's going off and the occasional c4 oh yeah and the hand nades going over the roofs.

The 7.62R produces 11% more energy at the muzzle ( According to Sniper Central the .308 puts out 2650ft/lbs, the 7.62R 2994ft/lbs.)
At 600yards (550meter) the 7.62R puts out 1518ft/lbs the .308 only 1060ft/lbs. Thats close enough to a 50% difference in Kinetic energy.

..the 54r, ....just inferior once it's airborne to most sniping ammunition of today. It tends to drift severly in crosswind, and it drops like anvil past its 250m average zero.
            Sniper Central says .308 will have drifted 7" in a 10mph corsswind by 300yards (275m) while the 7.62R will only have drifted 5.91". At 600yards (550m) the .308 a whopping 31" compared to 26.19". At 1000 yards, the .308 over 100" with the 7.62R only 87".

            Which is worse? Sorry?

But, you cannot deny that the round if ballistically inferior to the .308. And it doesn't matter how much force you push the round from the barrel if is slows down too much before target, and drifts too much off of the point of aim.
But clearly it isn't an inferior round. The 7.62Russian is a damn fine round. Because they both have similar profiles, and both are boat tails, the heavier faster 7.62Russian will carry it's energy better than the 7.62Nato/308 Win does. The M24 is a better launch platform, but the SVD is quite capable for BF2 "sniping"

lol. Cmon' now, let's not tease people. Short of a .50 everything you're speaking of is theatrics. A .308 is not going to knock you down, anymore than it's going to knock down a sniper ....

Now, if you're speaking of shots to instantly leathal areas
Yes, by "Knockdown" I was referring to the "one shot stop" capability. Not the Hollywood pick-you-up-and-throw-you-through-the-nearest-plate-glass-window effect. The fact that the bullet, event though it doesn't deliver a CNS killing shot, is still capable of killing you throgh both hydrostatic shock and the ammounts of damage it does.

In combat settings a single 7.62NATO round to the upper chest is enough to render you "combat ineffective" and if medical support isn't close, you will die. Generally.

There are always horror stories of attackers soaking up multiple 9mm shots to kill their victim anyway, of .44Mag round to classic CNS areas that only stun. Just as there are stories of .22LR kills at 500m, Elephants getting killed by .270's and the like.

As you said, every action has equal and opposite reaction. The Hollywood effect would throw the shooter just as far. No man portable shoulder fired weapon system has the energy to do this. Even the .50Cal and the 20mm's will blast through a person without delivering all their energy to the target anyway.

What are you reading bro'? I'm looking at this chart side by side and I see that the 7.62x54r at 600m puts out 1344ft/lbs while the .308 at 600m puts out 1060ft/lbs. That's not 50%... not even close to 50%. It's about 11% at muzzle and 25% downrange.

In terms of crosswind drift, you're right, the .308 is pretty bad as well but I'm not basing my perception of the 7.62x54r on this alone. The round chases dirt like an anvil and there is no denying that. Everytime I've been behind the 54r I've gotten pretty crapitacular results. Maybe it's more shooter than rifle/ammunition but I perform much better with the .308 even out of a slightly modified G3 (Heavy Barrell, Free Floated, up from 16" to 22").

But clearly it isn't an inferior round. The 7.62Russian is a damn fine round. True. I still belevie it's not up to the level of peformance of the 30-06 or the .308. I stand by that, but, I can see your points about the round strengths. I just don't see muzzle energy outweighing the fact that the round is simple not flat shooting. And of course... there is no match grade ammunition in the 7.62x54r that I know of, so, when you get into that classification the round is seriously outclassed.

That right there is what make me so POed, i was just on Sharqi Penninsula(??)-most likely spelled wrong- My squad and I were retaking the Tv station. I go upstairs to clear the area, and another individual coming downstairs bumped into me on the flat area between floors, we turn look at each, I shoot G3, he jumps straight up kills me with a GP-30.

We were standing point blank and he walks away. I could only hope that he had one bar of life left.

Same map i get kill 6 more times with both the GP-30 or F2000 nade launchers, from point blank to about 4 feet away. Turn a corner boom-15 second break. Each time i shot the guy( while they bunny hop), G3 takes about 4 bullets to the body, near impossible to fight them like that. Made me mad enough to take a break from BF2.

Beyond that right there, nade launchers arent bad, if people didnt exploit them like crazy.

Woah. I must have read that page around 1000 times in the past, and about 500 times just to make sure I didn't **** up the numbers, and I damn well did it anyway. Good catch. Sorry about that. I would have bet my life on the the 550m (600 yard) reading being 1518, not 1344. Sorry about that. Must get the glasses checked.

However is is still more powerful than the .308, like I said in my original post. 7.62x39mm AK round, .308 Win G3 / M24 round then 7.62x54mmR SVD round in order of power.

Everytime I've been behind the 54r I've gotten pretty crapitacular results.
Really? I've mainly only shot Mosin Nagat bolt actions, but I've put about 15 rounds from an SVD downrange. But I've easily kept the hits on a beer keg (empty, don't worry. No wasteage here) out to around 300m. Thats the limit of our range. I can also do it with my .303B and a .30-06, and a .308.

True true, however you can get hunting ammo in that caliber. While not quite the same as Match, it is a higher quality than the mil surp crap.

I couldn't find much bullet drop info on the .308 in the 3 seconds i allocated to the search, but with the same 300yard zero by 400yards the .308 will have dropped 14", the 7.62R 12.5".

Anyway, enough of this garbage :)

I'd say it's not that bad. The other classes have all sorts of powers that make them worthwhile and the assault gets a nade launcher that is a one-shot kill if used correctly. If you think abut it -

Engineers can kill almost a fast as assault with the semi auto shotguns and they can drive around in tanks all day anyway, ignoring you.

Spec ops get those insane carbines that snipe and spray with amazing accuracy in all weather. The tube would beat them up close, but you'd never get a second chance to fire.

Medics are probably them most frustrated since a good hit will kill them before they can regenerate, but they can revive more people than you could ever tube.

Snipers aren't going to be in tube range. If they are you'd kill them anyway.

Anti Tank get killed by most infantry anyway so doesn't matter if you tube them or not, but they get a rocket launcher so they have an easier time picking up chicks.

Support gets a shiny MG that couldn't hit a barn from the inside. (Sorry... They're screwed)
