At the barrel it is also hitting harder.

The 7.62x54r does not produce 50% more kinetic energy than the .308. Hell, the 30-06 and the 7mm don't even produce 50% more kinetic energy than the .308 and they are much harder hitting and flatter shooting that the 54r and the .308.

I'm not doubting the power of the 54r, yet, ballistics are against the round. It's just inferior once it's airborne to most sniping ammunition of today. It tends to drift severly in crosswind, and it drops like anvil past its 250m average zero.

I will grant the 54r maybe 10% harder within' ranges of 600m (Which basically means it should put down any target in this game, but hell, the .308 should as well. Assuming of course you have hit a "lights out" shot). But, you cannot deny that the round if ballistically inferior to the .308. And it doesn't matter how much force you push the round from the barrel if is slows down too much before target, and drifts too much off of the point of aim.

True about the HP LEO ammo. However a 7.62NATO will knock down any target it over penetrates in CQB. Almost guarenteed. The only problem is it will knock down the next 3 people it hits as well.

lol. Cmon' now, let's not tease people. Short of a .50 everything you're speaking of is theatrics. A .308 is not going to knock you down, anymore than it's going to knock down a sniper firing the weapon from a standing position. Granted it's going to feel like a nice gut check depending on where you're shot.

Now, if you're speaking of shots to instantly leathal areas (Spine, in some cases Head. But, there was a CNN special on a woman taking a .44 to the face and living. So, I don't know if headshots are the way to go anymore) then I'm inclined to agree that you will be put down. Yet, it won't be the force of the bullet doing it, it will be the fact that your spine was just ripped out of your body.

But, enough of this ammo debating. We are drifting from the point of this thread. You're right, we should probably take this to the PM.

What the hell does that matter?! Do you think I stand a chance when I get bombed or have artillery dropped on my head. At least 1 in 4 of my deaths is from artillery or planes. I can understand why people get ****ed off about grenade launchers at point blank but just like planes, artillery and bunny hopping it is in the game so get used to it. I personally want all of those 4 things balanced or removed but that doesn't mean I won't use them on occasion. If I walk around a corner with my grenade launcher out and someone is just around the other side I'm not going to swith to my rifle becasue fragging thier arse with a grenade would be "unethical". Get real.

If you're more skilled than an assault player you will beat him. Just strafe, go behind cover, and don't stop moving if you see a newb tewber. Once he misses that first shot you have enough time to take him down while he switches to rifle mode.

Assault players do have an initial advantage in one-on-one fights if they know how to aim the grenade launcher; most assault players do not. But against multiple opponents the reload time works against them. Not to mention that the anti-tank rocket launcher can be just as deadly--it's an instant kill on infantry with less splash, so you can hit up close without taking damage.

if only I could line up all the people that complain about people using a weapon in the game, stand on their throat and put the 203 in their mouth before firing it.

It's not an exploit, it's a weapon. If you don't feel it's an honorable way to use it then set up your own server and kick people who don't feel the same way.

EA_Protagonist collected the most requested fixes and sent them to the devs. One of the top requests was to change the noob tube and the bunny hop. If DICE makes any changes to the gameplay next patch chances are they will adress these.

The fact this thread has 100 posts spanning seven pages proves that there is still significant interest in this topic.

I just disagree with this seniority-induced elitist attitude that some people have around here that just because a subject is old to them it's old to everyone. This forum isn't static, you know. New people join everyday (and even new people buy the game daily, too), and they have just as much right to voice their gripes as you did when the subject was new (again, new TO YOU).

The only alternative is to bump an old thread, but we all know how taboo thread bumping is ("OMG! OMG! OMG! Why did you bump this two month old thread you stupid noob!"), so I guess it's a no win situation, eh?


Anyway, back on topic, over the past five months, I've logged in about 170 hours in-game, and I have honestly never experienced to any great degree this "noobtube" phenomenon so many people are all worked up about. Maybe I"ve just been lucky enough to always randomly pick the right servers. :p

Bunny hopping, however, is rampant everywhere, no one can doubt that. It's a simple fix in the patch: just disallow weapon fire while in midair. (Grenades and C4 can easily be excluded from the internal "is-on-ground/can-fire" check, so no harm there either.)

Agreed Tyler. Those who think the nade launcher is so overpowered should remember that every class in the game has its one shot kill--the headshot. And the anti-tank missile launcher is arguably more effective than the noob tube in the hands of an experienced player because it can be aimed after firing.

Bunnyhopping is also notable. Whether it should stay in the game or be removed, bunnyhopping is currently an effective tactic for avoiding noob tubers by messing up their aim.

Kill or be killed! It is a great support weapon for softening up an objective for a bonzai assault. I like using it on Kark.. to cross the bridge. Toss a smoke nade down, charge under cover.. then use it as a medium range mortar untill my squadies can take control of the far side. clears out all those snipers under the tracks, around the flag etc.

UP close it is useless , unless you want to "be no more"

I agree it can seem unfairly lethal when used effectively. It does take a bit of skill however to sprint, aquire a target at 100+ meters, turn, and lob one on target. A good assault unit should also be able to switch back to mg and kill with its short bursts use pistol or knife in a CQB sit.

I think the real noob toob is the Arty or anything with wings + rockets. If anything "nerf" that.

I don't know how the Mods here see their job, but I mod another forum, and the way we work is it isn't the MOD who desides what is a good idea or a bad idea. The discussion it the topic dictates that.

If someting totally devolves into an off topic discussion then it will be steered back on course or the people in it will be asked to head oer to PM.

Deleting a topic like this won't help because someone will post another one.

Locking it might help, but then it does tend to slide off the front page. And most people's "search" invlovels scanning the front page and then they post.

Where I moderate we mainly use the "delete" post for posts that do't belong in polite conversation and add absolutely nothing to the discussion at all. Personal attack, racial comments, Warez links, pron links and the like. Locking is generally reserved for flame bait that's had a couple of replies.

While this topic has had one or two slightly out of the ball park posts, it is generally still on topic.

Anyway, back on topic.

Mccray, that sounds how the M203 should be used. As I said in all my posts I agree to it being used like that. I had a nice run with it the other day blatting vehicles. I removed 2 Vodniks and a captured Humvee in the space of about 2 minutes. Wicked fun.

However I still wasn't using it to instablat things at 3meters.

I'm also not worried about kneejerk reacion shoots at contact distance. It happens.

However it's the bunny hopping jump over the person and explode their corpse and escape unharmed use that I object to.

If you think about it, the implimentation of an "arming" distance would also redcue the incidents of blowing yourself up. Which is the whole point of the arming distance IRL.

I'm not saying grenades shouldn't blow you up, I'm saying they should be able to do it while jumping in the air and leaving the shooter, who is directly above the explosion, unscathed.

This one time I was on oman at a beach flag, i fired my GP-30 at the essex and it liek totaly blew up and i killed 31 out of 32 of the enemy (the last guy was in a jet, and i pwned him bad with my GP-30), they were liek OMG WTF!?!?!, and i was like HAHAHA PWNED nOObs. Some guys just liek need to learn to play and stop being noobs. Yeah, liek.
