Is it just me, or has the shine gone...?

ok, it may just be me losing interest, but does anyone else think the shine has gone from BF2? Seems to me that it's getting increasingly difficult to find a decent server with decent, fair players. That is, players that don't shoot you heading for the helicopter because they are waiting for their mate to get in. Or players that don't call you a "noob" because they fly directly into you in their jets at 400 mph.... and don't even get me started on the jets that just rape your base and kill you within 2 seconds of spawning.

I tend to try and avoid servers now where people have the same "tags" at the beginning of their names as you know it's going to be a nightmare. No chance of getting near a helicopter, and if you do, you'll just sit on the helipad with the pilot shouting "bail out" etc until you get shot and killed.

Now, I know these guys tend to be the ones paying for the server, which is fair enough that they play together, I understand that, but if they want healthy competition they are not making it easier for themselves.

...and why can't people be encouraged to use other vehicles within the game, rather than just hog the helicopters or jets?

Maybe it's time EA introduced a server selection system based on your Global Points (where average players like me can play with other average players and have a damn good battle). And get shot of the AutoBalance crap that moves you over to the losing server 30 seconds before the end of the game.

3 months ago, this game was the only one installed on the PC, and was played whenever I had a spare hour. now I can hardly be bothered to boot the PC up for it.
Special Forces has only really made it worse... it's slowed down performance to almost unbearable and after a while the whole "night time" atmosphere gets boring.

Such a shame.

That was one of the reasons I took already 2 breaks of 2-3 weeks NO BF2 :)

The only fun I get in BF2 now is to play with the clan members on public or private servers :P

Yeah I agree, maybe the players are just so good now but I have an average global score of 4000+ but am now used to getting killed every 2 seconds on ranked servers.

I could swear some people are cheating (don't know how) but to see me through the bulkhead of a ship for instance and still kill every 2 seconds (through it) is beyond me.

I also don't like this hogging of helis, when I get a passenger and die I then back-off to let them fly to make it fair and enjoyable but people who want it tend to warn you off by firing at your feet or telling you to bail out it's a joke.

My biggest gripe is the jets. They seem far too over-powered to me, they constantly take you out whilst apparently travelling at 500mph (I can't even see anyone on ground at that speed let alone take them out haha. They should do Dalian for example with no jets, would be more fun in my view.

I think they should do servers based on a global score range, so you get players of equal ability and actually have some fun whilst improving your rank.

I too couldn't be bothered to play it on weekend as it seems to just frustrate me these days.

The feeling is mutual. You have to have week long breaks in between playing BF2 for an extended period of time.

Yeah. Seems to be that taking breaks from it is the way to go, however seems that interest is generally disappearing anyway. A couple of weeks ago, online servers was down to about 400... it was well over 1500 when I started playing.

As a side... anyone know the cheapest way to host/rent a private server? (I like the idea of kicking off users that don't play fair :) )
And how configurable are the servers? Can you affect what vehicles are in the maps etc?

the game is just getting old with the same old maps over and over again. I am just waiting for a good mod to come out.....like point of existance2 or another desert combat. I don't know how those guys flying jets can always hit you at the sam sites, I can't see anything on the ground when I am going 500 mph

EA have themself to blame, with not including bonuspacks... Retail expansion packs only kills the community... Take UnrealTournament(1998) for an example, it's still alive today, but was very alive as long as the bonuspacks were made...

It takes skill to fly a 400mph jet into someone, that's like a stall kill.

All weekend is pretty good going too... not sure if I'd have died of boredom or lack of fresh air and exercise.

Actually I got a good amount of exercise in, despite the cold weather.

Not sure why you have to be street to understand that "rockin" means "using" (didn't your teachers ever explain context clues?), but suffice to say, using the new guns from SF renewed some interest for me.

As an unfortunate and completely unrelated side effect, my time on the USMC side surpassed my time on MEC - an issue I'll surely need to resolve.
