I'm sure people would complain anyway.
i wish i could get by in life by just attempting to do things right, figure we should get our moneys worth. unless your work ethic is based on attempts as well.

They cared about BF1942 because it didn't have to sell, this game was destined to sell therefore they couldn't give 2 ****s.

And if this service continues, the series is destined to flop. I don't see the business logic in that honestly. I agree with what you say, but why would they do something so stupid if it hurts longterm earnings? Dang EA and their monkey CEO peoples.

Re: Looks like EA/Dice have abandoned Battlefield 2

Ea has abandoned BF2 for all our intents and purposes. There will most likely be no more patches that fix anything noticable, other than small compatiblity issues or odd server glitches. Maybe another patch or two for the expansion, and maybe another expansion, but i'll boycott that one as well.

Mods will continue the development of the game. They will create much better balanced, much higher learning curve, more complex in depth mods (the once the old GC guys are working on actually has an original storyline). They will be able to make mods 10 times better than the expacks. They just take a while, because they are built in free time by not so massive dev teams. Look at FH, after 2 years. It officially kicks the crap out of BF42 + RTR + SW, in terms of content, gameplay and graphics.

It would take quite an impresive redemption effort by EA to make me want to buy any Battlefield series for quite a while after BF2. No problem for me though, I haven't played through COD2, and the new OpFlashpoint has my attention. As well as the Insurgency mod for HL2.

Yeah the mods really make BF all the games in one, for BF: 1942, you had DC for modern, FH and BG1942 for world war 2, EOD for vietnam, siege for medeiavle (such a classic), pirates (well i think you can guess), interstate (that was some crazy idea but quite fun for a bit).

              No sh!t.

The point is that there's been no abandonment... just some "issues".
There is obvious need for more support for BF2, but we've seen what happens when they rush the job.

I say I'd rather wait a month (or 2) and let 'em work out something that will WORK rather than slapdash attempts to resolve problems without doing the proper testing and research.

You also have to remember that the Devs (Dice) do not get to say when they get to work on patches or what they would contain. EA dictates that. Devs usually very much want to support their work, since their reputation is on the line. Publishers don't care nearly so much since they have a whole stable full of devs.

FYI: I've worked as a dev and had dealings with publishers (EA directly, for that matter) and I can tell ya, I've never met a dev that wasn't in it for the love of the game. On the flipside, I never met with a single publishing rep that had even the slightest clue about games beyond the bottom line.

After watching some PP and hearing that quote, then researching it to find his reasons behind it were indeed true. I had my fears about buying bf2.

However, I knew that what I played in the demo is what I was gonna get. I had fun playing the demo, I had fun playing the game. Of course there are things in the game I don't like, however, when it comes down to it. I'm sure there are things I like in the game that others hate. Yes it's a buggy game, yes EA support for their products leaves a lot to be desired, no it's not the end of the world.

I'f you're playing more than 2 hours a day, you need either a job or a life anyway.
I got 6 jobs and can still play more than 2 hours a day.

All built on an engine provided by EA/DICE with tools and support provided by EA/DICE.

if you're working on your second degree and you're an engineer, wouldn't you think you could tell this comment was not for you? you would definitely not fit the "more than 2 hours a day" criteria.

besides, being a train engineer is not nearly as impressive as a real engineer, but nice try.

interesting point, i would imagine that the people writing the checks have more power over the developers as far was what gets released

How exactly do you hold 6 jobs, much less play BF2? And what do you even consider 6 jobs?

Exactly what happened with SW Battlefront, then a sequel was released...very dissapointing!

It's a business for EA, the less time and resources they spend on the product the more money they make. Look at the Need for Speed series. They may patch a serious issue but usually they just release a new game like Underground, then Most Wanted, and so on. It's the nature of the game. They probably have moved 90% of the resources to a new project and have limited resources on improving this project.

If you want to change their actions then do it with your money....stop buying their sequal products like Special Forces. This is just a mod and a lot of people have handed another $30 over to EA. Making the real price of the game $79. They are laughing to the banks.
