Can't mix BF2 and SF on 1 server? I thought this was an 'Expansion"?

Why would they not allow BF2 Maps and SF maps to be run on the same server?

My host is telling me they are separate and other hosts are only offering them as separate servers?

Now I have to purchase a 2nd server jus to run SF? WTF?

well yeah it would be good but what would happen if someone joined ur server with out spec ops and it was on a bf2 map and then i switched to a spec ops map, the person would get kicked i guess but that would be ghey

It's the same with a lot of expansion packs. If you wanted to play C&C Generals Zero Hour then you had to close Generals Vanilla and open up the expansion. If you look at your start menu directory, it has it's own folder under EA Games.

This is my only real complaint about the expansion, the inability to play standard maps. I understand the problem with non SF owners getting kicked but surely SF servers should be able to play BF2 maps as this wouldnt be a problem then.

I think if you could not only would more people probably upgrade to the expansion but it would also be better for the players as it would break up the maps and so give a bit of extra life to the game instead of potentially splitting it the player base.

Its too early to say what the effects of this will be as the Expansion is so new but player numbers will tell the story in a month or two.

That's always an issue with this kind of stuff.
But as Teaves said:

It would be cool if you could play all the maps through out the day without having to disconnect and restart the game. I miss flying the jet sometimes.

I have my BF2 and SF mounted from image so I don't have to switch DVD's its auto when I switch servers, and I have read somewhere you can mix maps, it's just people have to switch CD/ DVD's for different maps (BF2,SF), I don't it does it auto with both DVD's mounted from image, My Orginals are safely in there boxes now I have the image's I can install from image as well if need be.

Something that ****es me off about this, if i move to an SGF server from a BF server or vice versa my xfire messes up and the im wondow appears in the upper left corner and i cant read it. It's ****ed up. EA totally needs to link these games because it ****es me off having to swtich servers just because i get tired of certain maps.

You can use either CD for either game actually so theres no need to mount both images, i have been playing BF2 original with my Special Forces CD in the drive.

Im pretty sure they would make more money from the client sales rather then servers, even at the price they charge for ranked servers I think a lot of server suppliers will do it so you can play either Vannilla OR SF but not at the same time (just switch between them). And even if they dont a few hundred server rentals is only a few thousand expansion sales.

Perhaps it will change in the future, if they see the profit being hit or player numbers being affected.

Now it just means more work, restarting the server whenever we want to play BF2. Not to mention the logistics trying to implement a solid server structure so people know when the server is running SF or BF2. GRR..what were they thinking !

Not a problem for me running non ranked servers and hosting myself (just run two instances of the server) but i feal your pain.....

I dont look at Bf2Sf as a Xpac anyway - it just a mod in Xpac clothing.

This is what I complained about from the first few months I heard they were making Special Forces. I felt it would break the community apart and cost clans and other companies that provide BF2 servers 'DOUBLE' what they pay now, in order to support BF2 and BF2:SF. I guess it's all for money. However World of WarCraft has Expansion packs that merge 100% with the original product online and World of WarCraft has sold more copies and has made more money then BF2:SF ever will lol. goes to show EA is stupid. A good product will make you more money not more expansions.
