Re: Can We Non-SF get some new map reviews ?
Hey,
I've only had a chance to play Devil's Perch and Ghost town. Devil's perch is interesting, a little slow moving at first because I'm trying to figure out my way around the map. But definately interesting...I've used my flashbangs a couple of times with great success I might add.
Ghost town reminds me a little of a bigger version of urban map from America's Army. Plenty of ways to die...so there's definately a learning curve. Both are great for sniping.
Love the new unlocks too.

Re: Can We Non-SF get some new map reviews ?
All of the maps I have played so far are really good.
My Favorites so far are:
1) Warlord
(Karkand with an indoor palace and the ability to get up onto any building)
2) Surge
Russian rebel attempt to hold a giant nuclear missle base, in a valley
3) Iron Gator
Attack / Defense of an aircraft carrier, AMAZING indoor play
4) Devils Perch
The only night map I really liked so far, kind of like Monte Casino in 1942 but at night. Night maps are harder to get used too because it is more disorienting, but they will get easier.
Those are the only ones I have played more then once so I can't really review the other ones.
All in all the maps are REALLY great and have a lot of "vertical" play in them, but unlike BF2 maps like Kubra it is really easy to travel in the z-axis and make it advantagous to hold the high ground.
Also, given more indoor play it is easier to avoid arty, which is nice
Also, you REALLY need a diverse squad in all of these maps. Lone wolfs are not gonna do that well since you need a balance of equipment to properly travel the terrain

Maybe it was because I was on a 64 player server, but Iron Gator and Night Flight the indoor fights are laggy but out doors are fine. I have played all the maps, and they are mostly fun, I have been getting killed a lot since I am more into exploring where you can go and checking things out..

Devil's Perch
Very well put together map. The US Seals Spawn at the low end of the mountain on a secluded Island with an Uncappable base. While the MEC Special Forces spawn at the top of the Hill with all their bases cappable.
The Map is actually very unbalanced. The USNS has a very high advantage with the new tools such as grappling hooks. Taking a rockledge up the mountain is the easiest way up. The MEC SF is very weak on this map. With no real new weapons except the new tools which include but not only, NVG(Night Vision Goggles), Grappling Hooks, and Ziplines, their forces seem to lose the map more then win it.
The US Navy Seals seem to even while in battle be able to squeeze by the MEC and make it to the Asylum "which I might add, adds to the effect of the map."
Trying to find your way around in the dark and taking full opportunity to use the NVG.
More reviews from DaSniper after I eat lunch since its thanksgiving.

Re: Can We Non-SF get some new map reviews ?
My favorite maps in order form most favorite to least favorite:
Mass Destuction - I love this map so much. Even though it is Spetsnaz vs. Rebels, which means both teams have the same exact weapons as in the vanilla BF2, I still love this map for some reason. Wide open environments, and the roads are somewhat hilly so armor won't be an issue. Awesome indoor environments.
Warlord - Just like Karkand, only without a lot of the vehicle whoring.
Surge - Great outdoor areas. Nice for squad play.
Devil's Perch - My favorite night map, not too big, not too small.
Night Flight - An ok night map, not much ot do here.
Iron Gator - No ziplines or grappling hooks suck
Leviathan - Too big, too much vehicle whoring, and you will get tear-gassed every second in the submarine area.
I haven't played Ghost Town yet, so I can't rank it yet.

I disagree with Leviathan, I had a lot of fun on that map. I actually like all of the maps (I've played all of them). I think the night maps are all very well done but do agree Night Flight is a little on the boring side, some exellent firefights at the Terminal flag though with grappling hooks and plenty of indoors area. I, apparantly unlike the majority, really like the Iron Gator map, the carrier is well done in my opinion, even if the SEALs do have an advantage I still love playing MEC on that map and storming in the back of the carrier on jetski. Defending the back of the carrier is equally fun, one particular incident that sticks in my mind is when me and my squad were defending back there (I don't play on crappy statwhoring public servers, pretty much exclusivly on Tactical Gamer, where everyone works together) and all of a sudden 3 jet skis come buzzing in with 2 RIB's right behind them giving devastating supporting fire from the mounted LMG's, it was pretty crazy, and look just like a movie.
Another time I was defending the top deck of the carrier when all of a sudden the elevator shows up with a full squad of guys shooting tear gas and laying down some deadly covering fire while advancing towards the Flight Deck flag. All in all the maps are all very fun, it's truly the QUALITY OF THE PLAYERS that make the maps, servers with 3 1 man squads and everyone else unnassigned will have a ****ty time on every map.
I also like devils perch, it's certainly a bit more linear than the other maps but playing as the seals with my squad going up the side on the rock ledge and having some good battles at the back of the Church flag, taking that, then moving to the Asylum where we scaled the wall with the grappling hook and took the defenders completley by suprise, was priceless.

Ghost Town
I've played this course multiple times. It is a battle over a deserted town between the British SAS and the Russian Speztnaz. Anyway, the second best urban course in the SF expansion besides Warlord. It has many great sniping spots and a good mixture of vehicles.

Re: Can We Non-SF get some new map reviews ?
What made that map fun for you? I don't know if it's just me, but I just can't stand that map. Way too big for infantry combat, tanks are spawn-raping, and it can get very boring. I also don't like the submarine area, it gets a little too confusing and the corridors are sometimes too small. Plus, there isn't a lot of places to hide when your capping the first couple of flags on east side.Originally posted by HeroI disagree with Leviathan, I had a lot of fun on that map.

Re: Can We Non-SF get some new map reviews ?
I like all of them except Iron Gator...Devil's Perch is rather popular and it's by far the best night map, followed closely by Leviathan. However, being alone in either of those maps really stinks sometimes, so get squadded up. The day maps are nice too, all of them have many areas where it's actually very much to your advantage to use your grappling hook/zipline.
Iron Gator stinks in my opinion...no grappling hooks/ziplines, it lags like crazy on the interior, you get lost easy, and heavy chopper whoring. It was a nice idea, but poorly executed.

Re: Can We Non-SF get some new map reviews ?
I love all the rebel/russian maps. Leviathan will screw up the awards in my opinion because it takes a long time to play and you can easily get the explosive badges and knife badges and all the other badges that require a rediculous amount of kills/stabs/explosions in a round because you have so much time. On the server I was playing on, 4 people had scores well over 100 points. One guy had 150 points.
