I think I speak for a lot of people when I make this statement. I'll make is again; EA, Support us and we'll support you!
I suspect there are quite a few people right now that are not rushing out to pick up the expansion pack. I think initial sales are much lower than you would like. Maybe they are doing well enough. Nothing to be ashamed of, I'm sure, but they could be much higher.
Why?
Because people feel like the last time they gave you money, it was an investment in a game. That game wasn't totally complete when they paid for it, but they understood that fixes would come. Besides, they could have fun with what they had while they were waiting. These people understand that it's a difficult market. That's why they will rush to support a product that they see great potential in, even if it isn't quite there yet.
But this is the problem
When you release an expansion without first providing completing the base product people are less willing to turn over more money. They feel there initial investment has not yet been for filled, they are not going to make an additional investment on top of it. I believe that is normally called "good business sense".
And so...
Allow me to humbly suggest that in order to do good business, you make every attempt to fully support your investors before expecting them to further invest in your projects.
If full and proper support had been given to BF2 (through patches and communication with the communities) a significant number of people who are dragging their feet about purchasing this expansion would be rushing out to purchase it.
I am one of those people.
I'm sure more who feel the same way will add their notes within this thread.
If I had seen more support, I would have been in line today to purchase the game today, instead of taking a peak and listening to people stand around talking about how they aren't planning to pick it up while a surprising number of boxes remained on the shelves.
So please, consider this. Support = money. It works both ways.
