My apologies if this has been posted somewhere before. I searched the forum but didn't come up with any results.

How do you make/get a helicopter to hover?

Everytime I release "W", the darn thing just looses power and descends. Is there something more required?

I appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Tap W once in a while. BF2 has no lockable throttle settings.

The very important thing is that line on your meter, the horizontal one. It shows whether your copter is leaning. To achieve a perfect no-moving hover, you need that line completely horizontal and your nose to be pointing strait ahead. If the line's horizontal, but your nose is down slightly, you will be moving forward very slowly while hovering.

You could get a joystick with a throttle control (like I have), but you would still use buttons while choppering (like I do)... So tap away as the other guys said...

I have a joystick, and use it for planes, but keyboard/mouse for helicopters.

Release w, and move the middle circle so that it lines up with the horizontal line. Keep doing it until you are no longer moving. If your sensitivity is too high, you'll have a LOT of trouble doing this, I personally use 2.5 sensitivity.

Just remember that the direction of a helicopter depends on the angle it's in. Lean forward, you go forward. Lean to a side, you go to that side. Keep it perfectly level, and you hover.

To make the helicopter hover, keep the torque percentage between fourty and fifty (aim for 45%). If you slow your horizontal movement enough and level your chopper out, it will slow to a stop and hover almost automatically without the chopper tilting on its own.

For a joystick with a throttle, it works perfectly. Usually two guys chatting to one another fly off in the distance, hover, and the gunner launches hellfires from a greater distance than anyone else can hit them. Awesome tactic, though there are not many guys who collaborate on that level.

actually even if u dont tap "w", the heli barely descends. the power lasts for a while.

no, these people dont know what they are talking about (except for a few)

ALL you have to do is just hold that crosshair leveled. especially up and down. if it is lined up, you dont have to press any buttons. it wont lose or gain altitude. i love flying choppers. people love when i fly them in blackhawks, because i can take the BH and fly in sidways on places like wake island, and go really slow, and make sure they are lined up for the shot.

and for the record, joystick is better than M&KB ANY day. people who say that M&KB is better for flying, are stupid. a joystick is better for ANYTHING that has to do with flying. you just have to get through the "learning barrier" (if thats what you even want to call it...)... which is basically getting used to it. and it only takes like 20 minutes in a heli to get used to it. if not, you are retarded. OR you dont have a good enough joystick. when i say joystick, i mean the ones with 3 axis. Y (lean forward/back) X (ROLL left/right) Z which is turning the joystick on its "axle", not actually moving it (and that is TURNING left/right)

i think there a lot of tricks you should be able to do for evading...

the front flip/back flip
the simple "half pipe" movement of the chopper
barrel rolls
what i like to call the "flat spin"
and back/front flip 360's
and more...

what i mean by the "flat spin" is where you take the top part of the crosshairs (the top y axis) and rotate it (roll left/right) so the y axis is now where the x should be and vice versa, and then pull back hard (downwards/ closest to you...etc *on M&KB OR joystick*) and accelerate obviously. you spin REALLY fast, and it is good to do this on an angle so you start going all over the place... you have no idea how hard this is to hit.

go play single player and just mess around. Don't go into a full server and "try" to fly. That is NOT cool.

Oh yeah. Most definately not cool.

Watched my friend when he was playing the Gulf of Oman demo. Jumped in a Blackhawk and, by sheer coincidence, got the pilot's position. He figured he could do it, and when it was fully loaded he took off...and spun out of control into the sea.

Yeah, he wasn't having a good day.
