I had heard a rumor somewhere that EA was going to release an unofficial ranked server. This would allow people to run servers that kept track of stats, rank and everything else, just like the Official Ranked Servers, however the two will not be connected. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, when it is going to happen?

Re: Unofficial Ranked Server
i would say that the point would be for those with limited internet would be able to play lan games with their friends and have a ranked server. Also those, like myself, who are in the military and would like to have something to do for 6 months while deployed.

Re: Unofficial Ranked Server
There was actually someone not affiliated with EA-Dice that was working on an alternative ranking system, I was on the site about two months ago, but I can't seem to find **** on it in google. Wish I could remember the name, I would love to see how it is progressing.

Re: Unofficial Ranked Server
Why? America's Army used to tightly hold the reigns on their Honor tracking servers but have recently opened up that program a bit so that private groups can run their own Honor servers. Seems to do pretty well from what I can tell.Originally posted by DrunkenPirateThis has "BAD IDEA" written all over it.

I think it's already been proved that the people who play AAO and BF2 are vastly different

Re: Unofficial Ranked Server
Anything that reworks the point system to what it should be mite not be a bad idea, if it gains popularity, maybe EA will decide to pull their heads out of their asses and stop giving everyone points for every little meaningless task you do in the game.

Also see this thread on the BFSP forum: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~bf42play...showtopic=2925 . You can even generate stats from SP games.

Re: Unofficial Ranked Server
Hmm... I think people have largely missed the point here.
An un-offical ranked server would likely keep all of it's own stats saved locally. This means that when you join the server, you will start as a private. You can earn your ranks and unlocks for THAT server while playing on it. No points or awards will be passed to the EA master server. They would ONLY be used locally.
I can see it working alright. I'm sure that there would be more than a few hacked unoffical ranked servers, but since they aren't impacting anything else, who cares?
I would be a good thing for Clans that can't afford the costs on Ranked servers.

100% right, if there are stat padders and cheaters in ranked servers now imagine if all the servers were ranked.... there would be no way to track the exploiters.
anyone that likes this has to start thinking about a thing called "secondary effects"

Re: Unofficial Ranked Server
I really doubt that it's going to happen.
One of the reasons EA didn't want eveyone to have a ranked server was because if people had access to the files, they could taper with the files reporting a score of 100000000000.
Like Sickmind, if you can remeber back that far.
