    Guys, break it up.

    1. You click on a server with good ping and active players.
    2. You read the rules as you are loading map resources.
    3. If you
    - a. like the rules, wait for the map to finish loading.
    - b. don't like the rules, press Esc and go back to the browser
    4. Repeat as necessary

      Sorry, Saureco.

This is a particular sore spot. I hate it when some spoiled brat comes into ANY server and figures they have some "right" to be there and do whatever they feel like. The truth is that no one has any "rights" at all when it comes to connecting to a server that is owned by someone else. If they wanna make a rule saying that if you pull the trigger you will be kicked and banned, they may do so.
They will also have an empty server. :p

But, yeah, yer right. There's no point in getting into it with guys who aren't gonna get it.

        Gimp-

You are correct. The success of a server is part ping, part content, part administration, and part rule structure. Ping is critical to get people to come to the server and stay due to stability. Content has to do with mods, action, and player quality. Smacktards take away from this drastically, but that's why we have admin. Server admin must be fair, consistent, and mature, even toward their own clan members. Finally, rule structure determines if people will even bother to complete a connection, let alone advertise your server via word of mouth.

If a server has too stringent of rules, the admin abuse their rights, or players can skirt rules entirely, the server has failed. That, ultimately, rests in the hands of the hosts. If you want a successful server, here are the big 3 to follow:

        1. Get a stable server, preferably that can support 32 to 64 players smoothely at peak times.
        2. Have mature and consistent admin that can suck up a loss in a professional manner without resorting to childishness and abuse of "power".
        3. Make logical rules that are consistent with good gameplay, good sportsmanship, and healthy competition. Take CSM's server (Crack-smoking Monkeys) for example. They have a simple rule that says "Have fun, but be sensible". It leaves room for interpretation, but the sensible players take it to heart, and the smacktards abuse it. People still dolphin dive and bunnyhop, but do you know who's fault that ultimately is?

        DICE's.
