Well I might be a slightly above average player when in a tank, with a K/D ratio of 2,82...I said I had to take that up to 3:1 but problem is I got bored......................................I fancy having same score as an aviator but I believe that need too much practise in single player etc. I hate that cause I am lazy...Anyway I play during my lunch brakes at work and maybe another hour or so after 6 o clock in the evening. I even built up a pc that only has BF2 on (k8n sli platinum motherboard, AMD 64 4200+, 1GB DDR400 RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, 2x NVIDIA7800 GTX Overclocked blah blah blah) Can someone please explain how to use the god damned planes as 1 2 3? I wd appreciate using '..press F key to change blah blah, or how to blow up tanks or moving targets etc.) Yes I am a noob using the planes and I admit it...Thank you and excuse my english or if you prefer i could write in greek better..............

Control of the planes is really all a matter of personal prefference.
A lot of people swear by the keyboard. Me personally, when I attempt to fly (and I stress attempt :P ) I use a joystick. Ive never been able to figure out how to use the keyboard.
you need to find a method that works best for you. And then get on to an empty server, and just practice. Thats the method that Ive used to try getting better at flying, and it definitely helps. The biggest thing is just practice. -

Being a tank whore isnt hard to do, I only use armor in non-city maps and when the team is in trouble.
I dont have much luck with planes either. I practice in unranked servers all the time but still suck.Comment

Well when it comes to dogfights i just think those missiles really SUCK, either the opponent just turns hard to left/right or the missiles just go way off to hell.

My tank K/D ratio is not too bad, 2.74. I used to be a very good pilot, but nowadays I keep getthing shot down. My aviator aint too bad though, ratio should reach 2 soon. Well then, I really gotta stress on a joystick, because no matter how much those mouse piltos brag, they cannot outmanoeuvre the joystick pilots.
Your joystick needs to have a few basic features; mainly the rudder twist, a trigger, way hat-switch, and a couple of programmable buttons. I am using a Saitek Cyborg Evo, and it is the best for this game.
Normal people won't grasp the art of flying these planes as quickly as some experienced flight simmers (like me). I have been playing flight simulator for a LONG time, and so my reactions on aircrafts tend to be smoother, in terms of the turns. Just remember to use rudders to assist you to turn a tighter turn.
I have posted some tips in this forum, you should go search around. In any case, I shall tell you some basic tips for bombing now. For the fighters (2 bomb-configuration), you should release the bomb about half a second before the target box reaches the bottom of your screen. This is provided that you are playing in a low-ping server. For a bomber (4 missiles, 5 bomb-config), the bombs drop more slowly. This allows you to bomb and kill more people easily. I once got 7 kills in a single bomb drop in Operation Clean Sweep, 32 p map. You should drop the bomb about 1 second before the target box reaches the bottom of your screen. If you are very high, then do it further. Remember, your altitude and attacking angle affect where your bomb lands.
No matter what tips I give you, you must really practise. If you have Flight Simulator 2004, fly the Extra 300S. If not, play in Operation Clean Sweep, single-player in Expert mode. If you do not get shot down at all, and end up bombing the crap out of the AI, then you can carry on playing in multiplayer.
A tip for dogfighting now. Note that when you get the lock warning box on the enemy aircraft, the enemy would have already known that you have him locked about half a second before your 'lock' appears. Therefore, do not be a duffer and release all 6 missiles at once. If you do that, you run out of ammo, and fly back to airbase, and then get shot down by him on the way back. Best thing to do is to wait for him to either flare, or make a turn, then follow suit. If he releases flares, you are lucky because he is a noob. If he doesn't turn, release 2 missiles immediately and fninsh him off. Do not be an idiot and release 3 or 4. You are only wasting your own ammo, and the stray missiles might go on to seek your own friendly aircraft.
If he is experienced, and makes a turn immediately, turn after him. Do not make too wide a turn if you see that he is only turning a little. You do not want to overshoot him and end up being in front of him. Beware of your speed also. Some people are smart and they reduce throttle while turning. Some duffers might go turning full throttle. Have your hand on the throttle and be ready to make adjustments as neccessary.
Alright then, I think its a little long, so P.M me if you want some more tips. I doubt I will ever see you on Battlefield 2, as I only play in Singapore or other Asian servers. By the way, the WCG (World Cyber Games) Finals in in Singapore from today to Sunday. No Battlefield 2 though...Comment

lol, same problem i was having. after 420+ hours, i am BORED at this game... BUT, since i have about less than an hour total flight time, i think flying jets is the only thing that'll make me want to keep playing this game. i can probably put another hundred hour in just flying jets!

I've tried a joystick (saitek cyborg evo) and i can't get the hang of it whatsovever. I use all keyboard for jets and helis (no mouse), and find it all quite easy to do manouvors and things.
Bombing is very easy in the bomber, as it drops about 5 bombs, and it's also traveling slower. Figters are the harder ones, as you only have to bombs to hit them with.
When i first started, i couldn't bomb a thing from the fighter, but now i tend to hit alot more, but still not everything - i've only been flying for 3 hours, and my ratio is 3.55 - not great, but for the little time ive been flying, i think its ok! What i do is fly down - about 45 degree angle to the target, let the bombs go when i feel as though they should hit, then pull up. You just need to get a feel of when to drop the bombs.
As for dogfights, chase them in bomber mode, so they don't know your behind them, and shoot with the guns, not the AA ones.Comment

Some tips for dogfighting and piloting in general:
-Fly around in ground attack mode; As with all types of warfare, the element of surprise is a very important factor in whether you win or lose a fight. When you're flying around searching for a target, stay in ground attack mode. This way, he won't know you're there while you position yourself for a missile shot. Wait until your target straightens out; he'll usually do this when he's about to strafe or bomb a ground target or do a flyby at his airstrip. Once he straightens out, quickly switch to your air-attack mode and get a lock, then fire off two missiles, then immediately go back to ground attack mode and follow your target and repeat the above routine until he dies. This won't work on an experienced pilot who will just switch to his reverse camera and see you there, but it's always good to start off that way so you're guarenteed at least one good shot.
-Learn to read vapor trails; When a jet turns it leaves two thin white vapor trails. If you can learn to spot and follow these, they're a big help in following other planes.
-Bombing is something you get a feel for from experience. It's worth it to just spend 15 minutes flying around practicing bombing stationary stuff.
-Never fly straight; by this I mean always try to be taking an upward or downward angle while you travel somewhere. If I know an area is about to be taken by an enemy, I'll go reaload my bombs and immediately gain altitude as I fly toward the target and dive down on it.
There's alot more to this stuff, but the rest should be pretty easy to pick up on as you play more.Comment
