Thats why if im hiding near a flag 'particularly mashtur city) i lay C4 around the flag and so the minute i notice it change to white boom!
This is true. This is the correct way to be a commander.

Strictly passive, as soon as I get accepted as commander I jump out of any vehicle I am in and go hide somewhere towards the edge of the map.

There is no such thing as a Active Commander. If you have the time to go running around shooting, then the commander is useless. In fact, I do not even see why you can find time running around, when the UAV will take up most of your time. The only conclusion I can find is that you are just trying to hog more commander points without doing anything.

again, passive is the only way.

I really get annoyed by those people who expect to be commander and tank whore, we always end up losing, the guy is only commanding for the extra points.

Definately active, I'm one of those commanders that hardly moves because i'm constantely commanding, although i do move to repair UAV/ARTY and what not.

Basically we have a rule against active commanders. If a commander flies a jet he will get warned to either resign or command properly, if he refuses to comply and continues being the commander he will get kicked from the server. You cannot command properly whilst flying a jet.

I think on a 16 player server it can be ok to be an active commander any bigger than that and the commander should go and hide and command. That doesn't mean sitting in an APC and commanding either as that is a waste of your teams resources.

Lets face it on 32+ player servers commanding is a full time job and anyone who is running around in the front lines is not doing the job properly so on our server you either go and hide and command properly/resign or you will be kicked so someone else will do the job properly.

                  yeah, ditto...

Had a 6v6 infantry scrim on Fushe Pass-16 over the wkend, lost the 1st side 80-0 as our commander was too busy running around getting caught up in the action. 2nd side I took over as commander, C4'd our main, and sent the other 5 into battle. At one point the other team rolled into my main, I managed to C4 three out of four guys, the 4th was SL though, revived and they took the flag, and then killed me Our group did the same though, rolled over to their main and took it, I spawned at the middle flag, C4'd it and hid on a nearby hill. When they came for it, I got all 4 with the C4 :) :).

We still lost the side, 15-0, but it wasn't anything like the rape on side1. And this was vs. a well-established CAL clan...so not bad for a bunch of noobs from other games :) But the passive commanding makes a huge difference...

I actually like commanding when I'm a passenger in someone's vehicle. You have to admit that flying to a site or circling around a mountain buys you about 8 seconds to do a scan, throw out a UAV, drop supplies, and gently sprinkle explosive bird crap over a site. Press CapsLock, and resume the TV-guided anarchy.

This is essentially between both command types. You are active in that you will participate in battle while your assets recharge, but you will have to take a breather in order to use them again. And face it: any extra gun at the side of your men is greatly appreciated.
