Are you an Active or Passive Commander ?

Passive - hide and command from a distance.

Active - run around shooting while commanding.

    ----------------------------------------------

Personally I like to be active but I think it can be map dependant, some maps are better being active while others are better being passive, I do both.

I would like to see the commander be able to have a squad of 6 plus him (total 7) and you could be like the elite guard and the name of the squad couldnt not be changed it would be something simple like - CDR SQUAD.

Kick all people who think they can command and fly a jet .
A good commander means winning and being beat! when voting no one does .But if ur ateam member does it matter that u win or lose, i think the whole team should get x2 ,that will encourage them to fight not point whore for themselves !!!

As a commander there have been times when I absolutely must be active.
I try to be a commander who can protect his assets with little or no help.
I once singlehandedly wiped out 2 squads (only 3 with art) and retook the flag. This was after a griefer got kicked from command and we were down by 50-60 tickets. We ended up winning by 6 tickets. Like the saying goes: If you want something done right you gotta do it yourself.

IMO the only way the be an effective commander is passive. A lot of times I'll be an engineer and command near our artillery and SAT Trailer so I can repair if needed but if you are engaged in combat you're just wasting the teams time.

            Passive - ONLY.

Active commanding isn't commanding. A waste of the position...if I see some noob doing this I'm the 1st to the mutiny button :)

A passive commander can out-command an active commander anyday.

Here's an example of how important passive commanding is... Our clan is on TWL's 5v5 Infantry-Only Ladder. No vehicles at all. No artillery. All other commander functions are legal. In our 1st match and a few scrims w/cal clans, I've commanded. For the most part, I C4 our main flag to protect it, and then run and hide...what I can find on the zoom/satellite scan outweighs what I can do on the battlefield. And our opponents have basically done the same thing...commander covers the main, the other 4 guys fight over the 1-2 flags in the middle of the map.

My point, if a commander is best suited to be passive in a 5v5 match, what do you think he's best doing when its 16v16 or 32v32 ???

I'm passive unless the other team is completely owning us and we've only got 1 more checkpoint left.

I can get 10 kills with my gun! 50-60 kills(command points) using command tasks so if ur good u can do stuff without a gap in you command work

Re: Are you an Active or Passive Commander ?

I'm passive that likes to be an anchor. I choose my hiding place somewhere close to something valuable, just in case a little extra help is needed.

C4ing a flag is not a bad route to take.

That said, I hardly move unless it's absolutely nessasary.

Re: Are you an Active or Passive Commander ?

As someone else already said, the only effective way to command is to be passive. If your a commander who runs around and then gets killed your team has to wait 15 secs before your back and those 15 secs could be the difference between victory and defeat. The ONLY reason you should be an active commander is if:
                    1) Your main base is being raped and theres no one else around.
                    2) Your main base has been captured and your assets destroyed
                    or
                    3) Your team just plain sucks.

I can't remember how many times I've seen a commander who thinks he do a bombing run and command at the same time or tank you teams only tank and try to wipe out the enemy but gets blown up before even firing a shot.
If I apply for commander and then hope in a vehicle and then get commander I immediately jump out, run and hide, and begin my COMMANDING duties. They don't call it commander for no reason people.

im always passive. only time i was ever active was when the enemy boarded the carrier i was hiding on. had to get rid of them cause no one else seemed to want too.

Passive... hide near my assets or near a flag to defend...

Re: Are you an Active or Passive Commander ?

Active, but I am only commander if no one else will and if no one else is commander I use the resources to my will only unless I get a request, which never happens because everyone expects the commander to know.

Passive, I like to continually watch the battlefield. A good commander has little time to do anything else.

the only time where its acceptable to not be passive is when your protecting yourself from your position ie: the flag your hiding near is being capped by the enemy.

Thats why if im hiding near a flag 'particularly mashtur city) i lay C4 around the flag and so the minute i notice it change to white boom!
