I've noticed a lot of people don't want to be in a group in bf2 because you attract artillery.
One artillery strike can kill an entire squad. I think this contributes in part to the lack of proper squads and teamwork.
One way to fix this would be to have the artillery user controlled, but the commader gives them targets. This would make the artillery less accurate and deadly. For this idea, there could be a third person view if you are using the arty, and you have a brids eye view of the map, but can't see any enemies and targets pointed out by the commander appear as red dots. there would also be an arc to show the trajectory and landing area of your shots.
Or, we could just have a longer pause before the commander can use it again.

If you hear it firing in the distance and it's not your team's arty (look at map), then think about where you are: are there many friendlies around? Are you at a flag that's under attack? Are you capping a flag?
