We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Our solution is simple: We pay for a ranked server, have admin and we warn a useless commander that unless they command properly either resign or get kicked. We had an incident the other night. Our commander was in an APC in the front lines sitting back and camping the hotel on Karkand. He never issued 1 order, never dropped a supply crate to his team instead he sat in his APC and dropped crates next to himself. A commander doesn't need to be in the front lines on a 64 player server, they need to find somewhere to hide and command their team constantly.
He ignored all my warnings to command properly or resign so he got kicked as there was mutiny after mutiny votes from our team, as you know they never work, just like kick votes.
He then comes back on the server and here's the transcript of the chat log.

I had an APC at the time, I didn't kick him because I wanted his APC, he got kicked for not commanding and being a selfish prick, as you can see he was going for his expert command so he says, which is ironic because he didn't do any commanding only looked after himself.
To cut a long story short if you want to be a commander, then go and hide and command your team properly, don't go and fight in the front lines on a 64 player server and be selfish by ignoring your team and only looking after yourself because if you do that on our server you "WILL" get kicked!
i have seen alot of commanders sitting in tanks/apc's at the main base too, they are just wasting a vehicle. must be a new trend.
If I'm commanding as MEC on Karkand which has no UCB, I will command from armour to protect that base as it is important to the team to keep the assets and save the armour spawns. That is a viable tactic IMHO. From here I can issue commands and go forward to the next bases if they are threatened without using resources.
But agreed taking the commander role and not issuing orders, supplying UAV and supplies is out of order while fighting.
Yeah, he said the guy was fighting @ the front line dropping supplies only on himself. I will use the deep MEC tank to protect the back spawn [and blow the bridge.] but if someone spawns there, I'll get out and tell them to take the tank 'cause it's better used up front.
ONLY surefire fix for bad commanders, commander exploits, etc:
Remove the Commander Feature all together, or at least remove all of his assets and make him only able to coordinate squads.
i guess it is a trend, i am going to start commanding while flying a plane, cause i am protecting the air.
Argh!!
I was just on a server where the commander was doing just that. The kicker is that he was a member of the clan that hosts the server! It got to the point where I was so annoied with the guy that I made my own squad just so I could chew him out over battlecoms. Soon all the SLs had joined in making some rather diversive comments.
His only defence was that since his clan ran the server he could do whatever he wanted.
An admin popped on and proved him wrong by kicking him!

That would be called "lame".
The command features are one of the cooler aspects of BF2 and was one of the main draws that pulled me in. I wasn't a bit fan of BF'42 'cause I was too busy play Tribes II at the time (which had a reasonable command system).
For all the complaining we like to do about bad commanders, we all have to admit that when we get a good one, magical things happen.
I had an encounter with a retarded commander last night. He would not drop supplies when asked repeatedly. He would basically hide in a bunker and yell out enemy positions. I got so fed up with him ignoring my requests I decided he needed to die, so I killed him about 5 times. He still wouldn't comply.
At first I thought he was just point whoring but our team lost so fast because of his ineptitude he didn't get the 2x points.

The EXTREMELY rare time you get a commander capable of performing simple thought processes for each team, I agree it's a decent experience. But I never foresee basically giving one person the role of an RTS player over the rest of the people on their team actually working in online FPS games. The FPS community is too independent, it's that simple. Yes, some do work as a team, and some will listen to a commander, but for the most part either the commander is an idiot, the squads won't listen, or both.
I just don't see how the commander position is contributing to the series as it gives a player an all seeing eye (scan), instant pseudo-hack of a tool that shows anyone to all teammates in the area (UAV), and point and click death which people know is coming as soon as a flag grays (artillary). The contrast from 1942 just makes these look like toys rather than helpful tools, because people fight over them to be commander and exploit them to cause greif to others who can't ignore such idiots.
I just don't think the FPS community is, quite bluntly, mature enough, to handle the fact that another of their peers should be ordering them around the battlefield, and I doubt any FPS will really reach this point as a whole. (clan matches are an exception, but the general public still outnumbers these immensely)
Jesse, I truely hope I can be your commander sometime.
Your points are very true and your opinion on the subject is a lot more thought out than most.
Still, I dissagree because of one simple point:
Just because something is over the heads of the masses doesn't mean it should stop it from being a feature.
The times I've had good commanders (or a team that followed my commands well) have been so good that they offset the bad ones. Every round is like a chance of having a fantastic command/team synergy. Even tho it doesn't happen often, the chance of it happening keeps me interested.
And when it's not happening... well, Eff it! I get a chance to do some mindless killin.
As far as the features being "hack like"... well, they had to come up with some excuses to provide intel through a single player. In the real world, there's likely to be more people involved in C&C than in any particular battle.
There really is some amazing recon technologies being used these days, but it's harder to model having teams of people to deal with the information. What BF2 does isn't a bad fudge to make it compatable with being a game.

LmFa0 , btw phwwwwwwwwwor whos that chick in ya Avatar mmmmmmmmmmmm nice lass !
i kept a commander busy when i was boming his uav and that other thing, he would drive back and forth trying ot fix it...and still my team wasnt able to cap flags
