That's lame. Is there any possible way for someone to edit, or create SM 3.0 shaders?? Or am I missing something really important?... is it hard coded into the game itself?...

          Yes it's hardcoded in.

Perhaps a patch will enable it for the people with cards that support it? Do you think it's a possibility? I see no reason why not...

I see no reason why you think you need it.

                No that's not a possibility.

Considering they can't even fix the bugs in the damn game, adding SM3.0 support is:

                  a) The last thing they need to be thinking about.
                  b) No chance of happening.

the gameis developed en designed around SM2.0 , they should rework tons of stuff and EA isn't going to do this, and why should they put this in ??

it would boost performance for nv 6 & 7 series users and ati 1xxx users....
                            thas always a good thing...

Do you even know what SM 3.0 is for? It introduces displacement mapping and more efficient branch processing of shaders. The shaders in BF2 aren't nearly complex enough to warrant the use of branching. Since only nVidia cards (6 and 7 series) have a vertex texture fetch, you won't be seeing displacement mapping anytime soon either (Ati's newest cards use r2vb).
