At the start of a new map im usually one of the first 4 to spawn. Its the 2gigs of ram that matter, and if you have 10000 rpm hard drives it does too.

Try giving your computer a nice douching and reformat it with a fresh OS install you would be surprised how much faster not only BF2 is but everything else

Actually the Raptors do shave a few seconds off of your load times.

Re: Does anyone else have a rediculous load advantage?

It's been discussed many times before and I tried a few tests.

It takes me 25 seconds on the validation data screen with 512Mb

It takes me 22 seconds on the validation data screen with 1Gb

It takes me 22 seconds on the validation data screen with 1.5Gb

What people discovered that the verifing data stage was based on hard disk speed and not RAM (which is used in the map loading stage).

          From EA UK :

If you are running XP, go to device manager and expand 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' Right click on 'Primary channel' and choose properties. (Primary is usually the channel you HD's are connected to)

Click on the 'Advanced Settings' tab, this will show the devices connected to that channel, and their current speeds. Virtually all modern hard drives should be running in Ultra DMA mode 5. Maxtor's on the right chipsets run Mode 6, and most CDrom drives run Mode 2. Any HD's running in PIO mode will seriously affect loading times, as this is the slowest speed possible.

          2) How to fix...
XP will slow down the speed of devices if it receives errors while using the device, until it gets to PIO mode. This could be due to faulty cables, device or drivers.

First thing to try is simply change the the transfer mode to 'DMA if available' and reboot. If that does not fix it, uninstall the controller and reboot. XP should reinstall it and reset the fastest transfer speeds. You could also try both the MS drivers and the chipset manufacturers. (I had to install the NVidia drivers on my NF4 chipset, to fix IDE problems. I have also had them cause problems on my NF2 chipset system, so try both)

If it deteriorates or this doesn't fix it, check to make sure you are using 80pin cables, and that any transfer/DMA settings are correct in the BIOS.

Re: Does anyone else have a rediculous load advantage?

It drives me crazy that the friends that I play with cannot load the map as fast as I do. The chopper, jeep, tank, or whatever that I get always gets filled with somebody else by the time they load.

I'm not one the first on the map by any means...but it drives me nuts that my friends load slower.

I wish the map wouldn't start until ALL players have loaded and are ready.

Certainly they do, but the 2 gigs removes MINUTES of loading time :)

That's why I don't play on servers that have less than 5 rounds per game... And guess my um... load times :)

I usually load up in about 10-30 seconds.

                    It's the 2 gigz :)

Yeah I am usually in before just about everyone. Some servers have a longer start time though to make up for that.

im probably the 3rd-5th person loaded in a map. 1.5 gigs of RAM is all it takes.

RAM is the key. I am also the 1st or one of the 1st to spawn and my pc is no speed machine. 2700+ AMD @ 2.3 1.5gig RAM 7200rpm IDE HDD, only a FX5900 soft modded to FX5950 ultra. RAM RAM RAM, when I had 1gig it took me ages to join, sometimes a flag would be capped before I joined, added another 512mb its like chaulk and cheese, amazing difference, now I'm the 1st or one of the 1st to join.

RAM is the key 1.5gig is enough!

Having said that our Ranked server Raging Rebels Ranked 1.03 has a 30sec start delay to help people with less than 1.5gig of RAM join so there is not as much of an advantage. Having said that even with the 30sec delay I can still cap a flag before others join and the 1.5gig of RAM is why!

i do that here and there, it really depends on the map.

Cleansweep or Oman, if you steal the MEC Bomber its GG.

Im running a Pentium 3.4 Ghz processor with 2 Gbytes of RAM with a 256 video card and usually I am one of the first in the game unless they leave a decent interval between games. Its enough to where I can get to a control area before others but not enough that I can get there before they enter the game. I usually stand there like a dumbass for a minute anyway though so I dont really get the jump on everybody like I should.
