Re: Want to be first on a map ? get SATA

    It isn't that easy.
While it's transfer rate might be slightly higher than ultra ATA, there are too many other variables to take into consideration. If anything, the point about the RAM was probably more valid. I run B2 on my Toshiba laptop with 1GB of 400Mhz RAM and it loads uo pretty sharpish.

If you want performance increase you need to set up your drives in a RAID configuration or buy a 10K RPM or 15K RPM drive.

SATA drives are nice because they reduce the cable clutter in your case and not because they are faster, they are not.
Spot on Im a PC tecnician & at the moment theres very little in performance between EIDE & SATA all you have to do is look at the prices thes only a couple of £/$ between a EIDE & SATA drive I suspect that in 6/12 months as the tecnology gets better this will change but the moment theres really nothing to tell the two apart. I have EIDE in my pc & Im first on the map quiet a few times I think its more to do with the server than anyhing else.

If there's so little difference between UATA and SATA, I'd be interested to know why my OS now loads in close to 15 seconds, as opposed to 2-3 minutes with my old IDE. I didn't upgrade anything else, either.

20-30 Kb/s??? Your smoking crack right. You realize that's slower than High-speed internet don't you.

For all intents and purposes SATA is only marginally faster that ATA/133.

Your still saying SATA is twice as fast as IDE, which isnt' true at all.

My motherboard has 4 Sata2 slots, how much does it cost to get a sata harddrive?, I already got the cables.

Yes, RAID works well. When I had to move my game install to a non RAID drive verify times took what seemed like forever. After I fixed my RAID controller driver problem I re-installed the game on the RAID drive and now I am normally one of the first into the game..

However still upside down in the K/D ratio.

The amount of RAM you have makes just as much if not more difference to loading times.

I have my OS on a SATA drive. If I reinstall winblows now I will see a huge performance increase because of it being a fresh install, it has nothing to do with the drive. I'd like to see you OS loading times 6 months from now, I can assure you they will have deteriorated.

I didn't reinstall windows. I transfered everything in one big lump so that I didn't have to reinstall drivers, etc... And interestingly, it was about 6 months ago, too. Nearly 5, to be exact.
