Just installed my new system, previous was with IDE discs , and now I am using SATA .

Almost every time I am practicly first on the map, or maybe second, sometimes you can even cape a flag before an enemy comes in, lol.


instead of investing in very expensive VID cards and stuff, get a card who costs 70$ less and buy a SATA disc.

serial ATA drives for your computer. they are 200 % better and faster for your computer. only Hard drives and Vid cards use them i think.

SATA hard disks transfer data many times faster than normal IDE disks. They are really great with the new generation of games, as the large amounts of data that need to be transfered are done in the blink of an eye, comparatively.

Just make sure your motherboard supports SATA before you get it.

Nonsense. The difference between SATA150 (SATA1) and IDE133 is negligible. Maybe the next generation SATA2 will be noticeably faster but SATA1 certainly is not. My game is installed on an IDE drive and I am first one the map more often than not. It is just another marketing gimmick. If you want performance increase you need to set up your drives in a RAID configuration or buy a 10K RPM or 15K RPM drive.

SATA drives are nice because they reduce the cable clutter in your case and not because they are faster, they are not.

True. I'm using a single SATA drive, and I'm usually not the first in a map. SATA150 is slightly faster than ATA133. Using a motherboard & a SATA drive (or more than 1 in a striped RAID array) that support SATA300 would give you much better results.

I'm assuming you mean just for BF2 the difference is negligable. That I can understand. If you mean for all the programs, then I will be extremely doubtful to say the least.

How about a RAM drive? BF2 can fit in 1.5GB of space...I wonder if you can put your profile in a RAM drive as well???

no, the difference is negligible for everything. I have both a SATA drive and a comparable size IDE drive in my system, I assure you the datatransfer rates or pretty much the same. The current drives cant even maximize the bandwidth of ATA100. In fact any 'SATA' drive is an IDE drive, the limiting factor is not the interface but the mechanical parts of the drive. It is pointless to slap a very fast interface on a slow mechanical drive. The only reasons to use SATA drives are the neater cables and RAID. The burstrate for a SATA drive is a little larger but you wont see much difference in real life applications including games.

You guys are all wrong

I now how 2 make it faster.

I used 2 have 768 MB of RAM and the loading time took ages I could go get a drink, something to eat and when I came back it was STILL loading

But recently I bought 2 Gigs of RAM and now it only takes 5 secs to load the map and 5 secs for vertifying client data so that comes 2 a mere 10 seconds

I have never tried it with 1 Gig but that would take longer than 2 Gigs

Guys dont go out buying all this werid stuff that will last a year go out and get 2 Gigs now that will last you a while compared to all this other crap

SATA is a lot faster then IDE , it will maybe never reach the speed of 150Mb/s , but will stick on about 50-60 Mb/s , while IDE discs only get speeds of like 20-30 Kb/s
