Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
My question is have you guys ever taken the consideration how difficult it is to turn the aircraft around to take off? I don't mind landing at all, it's just trying to turn around on a one-way runway that renders landing useless.
Then there's the problem of being vulnerable by enemy aircrafts. Even those who don't fly much will sure to address this problem.
I believe the better solution is remaking the AA weapons. Simply improving or upgrading it is not enough because helicopters get hit hard the most than aircrafts with the Stingers and SA-7.
An SA-7 kit, that would be so great.. for all i care they keep the bf:v coding (goes for closest aircraft), and just speed it up so it CAN, kill a jet.
Before BF2 demo was released, I believed the AA missiles would work almost the same way as the SA-7 missiles in BF:Vietnam. It was perfect in tracking and following, the only problem was speed and damage.

Either that or reducing the number of bombs released by bombers down to 3 with 2 salvos.
well actually, you shouldn't turn around when you land (although I have seen people trying to turn around after they landed  funny site  ), you should just hit reverse and go all the way to the end of the run way and start from there. Before you know it, you're in the sky
Oh and yes, bombs aren't the only thing, pilots also get there nose guns, which are extremely powerful. I think the amount of the nose gun ammunition should be decreased by half.

A pilot just had the guts and maturity to use the word "complaints" instead of whining AND admit that they thought it was a flaw in the gameplay that they got a 50-0 ratio everytime they flew (seriously, though, anytime you see someone with a higher K/D ratio then check to see if their favorite vehicle is some form of airpower, these pilots aren't exaggerating). Congratulations dude! You deserve a metal or something! Anyway, I think it should be that any airpower can't REPAIR without landing. This way heli and jet pilots can't go to your base, get hit by an AT/AA missle/a volley of bullets, then go to repair, come back, and repeat. This would mostly make a different with helis though, because with all my +13,000 kills, I have only killed one jet with anything other than an AA missle. Gah, sorry, kind of drifted off topic. It's just that I don't like helis either:p
i didnt read the rest posts in this thread but i have to say i partially agree to the first post. the thing is there are too many idiots that waiting at the airfields for the pilots to tk them. Its already a pain in the ass to take off. once I'm in the sky i dont really want to go back to the airfield, the only chance that I'll land the jet is when it's smoking with the alarm beeping and there're alot of AA's but the enemy pilots suck.
It would be a nice addition, but frankly landing in this game (although not hard) is just stupid (jets stall at high speeds and the throttle is extremely sensitive).
Not to mention this would just make TK'ing more prominent. If you got a plane before someone else they would just stand in the middle of the runway so that you would have to kill them (while landing) in order to resupply.
In the end though, with AA being so cruddy and jets dominating so much, I would be in favor of it.
I suggested the landing thing on an earlier thread, not just a touch and go either, a landing, turn around, and take off. I also suggested making the respawn time for the jets shorter so the jet respawns before the pilot. So the next guy gets a chance without having that silly TK thing.
I was in the Air Force and this would make them more realistic, like everyone says they want it to be.
Battlefield 2 isn't suppose to be a realistic game.
Also, have you ever tried to turn the aircraft around? Since you were in the AF, were you or your aircrafts forced to turn around 180 degrees on one runway surrounded by objects in short time?
From the Air Force bases I have been in, aircrafts are provided with several runways where they can take off and land seperately or at least large enough without having to crash or bump into objects and people.
Landing the Jets to re arm and repair would make the game play much better.. Too many times I have been bombed by the same Pilot in the same spot.. It at least would give the ground troops more time to move to another spot.. And respawn of jets and heli's quicker than players would stop the TK of wanna be pilots..
1) Make it required for jets to land to repair/resupply.
2) Fence off runways or make them raised just enough to be inaccessable to vehicles so people cannot park things to run into. (make them on a widened hill for example with a stairway, or a raised concrete area that vehicles cannot access, but has stairs for troops.)
3) Make it so jets running into friendly troops do not count as teamkills (like the new commander/artillery addition in 1.03) that way all the kids that think they need the jet for 10 seconds before they hit a tree can't sit and wait for you to get TK banned.

You don't have to turn around. You taxi to the repair point, reverse if you need to and take off... damned easy on any of the runways.

Landing is not "stupid". As I've already stated, landing is easy, you just need to practice and have good throttle control.
Also, if you're in the red, it is far quicker to land, repair and take off again than fly back and forth along the runway getting your health back up to a reasonable level. Of course when you do land, you're taking a gamble that you may be strafed, TKed or impeded by friendlies, but that's a judgement you make depending on the server conditions at the time.
I like the idea in the first post, but i dont like it when you have to turn the aircraft around after landing or reverse the plane because you nearly overshot the runway. Takes forever to do, even more so on runways such as USMC runways inside Clean Sweep.
If I were one of the gameplay programmers at DICE, this is what I would have done. I would just simply make aircraft pilots land their jet on the airstrip or carrier to rearm.
It would solve three things.
-decrease the amount of noobs taking airplanes because they would need to land it to rearm which they will not be able to do (although they may still take them to go kamakazi)
-The ground units could worry less about getting bombed every 30 seconds because the pilots will be slowed down
-The pilots of the round won't be in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd places anymore because the slow down will decrease their K/D ratio
I'm a BF2 pilot myself, and this is what I would like, because it gets old when I can get about 30-0 on average every time if fly and about 50-0 when I go for the enemy aircraft carrier. I play alot as ground forces too, so I know how it feels.
If you had to land to reload, you would never get back up in the air again. I can guarantee you that your enemy jets will be circling your runway like vultures until you land, then they would rape you were you sit and never let that jet off the runway again. It's the same tactic that already gets used in CAL matches, first plane shot down never gets to take off again.
Then, you would also have people who like to do nothing but sneak around in the enemy bases all the time, they would steal a vehicle and put a shell in the jets ass as he sits there reloading or be hiding off in the distance somewhere with an AT rocket. So you would also need an alternative airstrip somewhere in the map that is outbounds, but EA-DICE is not going to rework the meager 12 maps and make a patch for 786 megs worth of levels.
What they need is, personal AA missiles as the alternative weapon in the AT kit and move the DAO over to a different kit. You either get the AT rocket or you get the AA missiles, one or the other, not both.
The simple solution which all you people just seem to go over because you suck at flying and don't want to be killed, i bet half you people whouldn't mine just having infinate artillery that auto aimmed and got your score up so you could get your stats up.
The solution is to make it so it takes a few fly bys to get all your rockets and bombs reloaded, then it takes time to do.
Uhhh, I've actually landed my plane before to repair it cause I didn't want to do 50 over flights. Well, it didn't repair me at all, if you taxi it does nothing, it sucks.
