Norton Anti-virus HELP!

okay..

So I went out for lunch, only to return to find that our out-of-house techie, decided to install Norton Antivirus 2006. Not a problem right? Well my Norton 2002 was good until 2014. He claimed that...'oh well, 2002 doesn't protect against worms'. I told him to go....well...I thought to myself at least. Anyway. I did a system restore (win XP home edition). My Norton is back, but it said my copy was corrupt or a file was missing...for my emails. I did an update...alas...no avail.

Can I get the registration number from the registery and apply it to 2006? (if so how) or how can I fix my previous copy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

DELETE NORTON!

It causes much more touble than it's worth. Download avast! or AVG from a torrent site, or just get the free versions.

Problem solved.

Avast is great and supports XP64. Norton is invasive and a resource hog.

anyone else use avast? it says it free but is it better than my norton?norton is a resource hog and i would like to get rid of it but is the free version of avast just as good?

Yes, avast serves it's purpose very well.

You can also always download bittorrent, and download the full version.

what they have is a free personal home version it dosent say trial or anything. and i want some more feedback from people other than yourself that have used this program.bout to go to cnet in a sec.

After a while the personal firewall that controls internet access to your programs will crash and block everything from accessing the internet.

And a other prob that starts : If your internet connection dies for a while there will be a error message that you cant get rid off saying something about your email proxy

hey did you guys know that there was a book published(to public no less) that had 3 viruses that were on the net and it took norton 3.5 years to capture and fix all 3? no bs too... i think i still have the link...

arg... i guess i deleted it

so in short term... norton is worth it, but im sure you have viruses that norton doesnt realize.

Anything is better than this Norton garbage. If you try to uninstall this junk you are in for a treat. Have look at how much crap gets left behind in the registry. Norton plain sucks.

I dont' know guys... do we have the same Norton?

My 2004 works finer than any virus program, and it's smooth.

It affects the performance a little, not really noticeable.

Norton got high grades in all magazines and tests..

I'm pretty sure that by buying 2002 it doesn't give you the right to 2006 so all he was installing was a trial version.

What happens when you try to reinstall Norton?

BTW, Norton has a special tool that you really should use to uninstall their products (available from the Symantec site) as it does a better job then the uninstaller that comes with the software.
