Thanks for setting that info up.

Interesting, but I don't get it: if you double-click on a game in ASE, it'll start up BF2 and connect you if there's still an opening. So I'm not sure what your utility is doing different than this. With your busload of posts, I'm sure you know ten times as much as I do about this game, so please do clue me in.

Ok...time for me to step on my soapbox

        [soapbox]

I play BF2 with a small group of close friends using GameVoice VOIP software. We all try and play on the same server. Sometimes there are 3 or 4 of us and it can be tough to get 3 or 4 slots on an almost full server.

Using the BF2Connector wrapper for ASE, everybody starts up BF2 and leaves it at the multiplayer screen and bring up the 'Connect to IP' dialog and type in 'BF2'.

Then you alt-tab out to ASE and start scanning, using your favourites, filters, etc. Once you all agree on a server, you all double-click it and alt-tab back into BF2.

Once back in BF2, simply hit 'OK' at the dialog box you left open and you're all going in instantly. No loading of BF2 from desktop to slow you down. You're already loaded and logged into your BF2 account.

ALSO...if you happen to find that the server sucks (full of TKers and no admin) and you all need to switch..there is no need to close BF2. Simply disconnect from the server and leave BF2 running. Alt-tab back out to ASE and find a new server. Double-click the server and alt-tab back into BF2 and bam...you're instantly in.

If you are not already running BF2, it WILL STILL LOAD BF2 from the desktop the same way ASE always does...it just won't bring you directly to the server. That is the drawback.

How the app works is that it grabs the IP address of the server you double-clicked on in ASE and passes it to your HOSTS file as 'BF2'.

It certainly isn't for everybody. It was originally created because the in-game server sucked so badly at release (and it STILL does) and I love using ASE but hated having to quit out of BF2 to switch servers.

        In Conclusion
        The biggest advantages are:
-the fastest way to get into a server..period
-no need to close BF2 to join a new server using ASE

        The biggest disadvantage:
-will not load you directly into a server from desktop

        [/soapbox]

        Anyway, that's it.

Excellent explanation, thanks! Definitely add this info to that web page, or the readme; I really couldn't figure out the advantages.

I updated using the Update Eye feature under File and it's still not showing ALL the players in the server. I've been using ASE since the bf1942 days or maybe earlier and have (had when they weren't bought by Yahoo) a lifetime subscription.

Oh...well it is working on my end.

When you go to Help, then About, what version does it say?

              It should say v2.6
