ASE fix for BF2 released Oct 27/05

They have FINALLY released a fix for the All Seeing Eye (ASE). The All Seeing Eye was only displaying the first 14 player names on any BF2 server...now, it shows them all.

ASE is a great way to see which of your friends are online and what server they are on. A simple double-click will launch you directly into their server. It's also the 'world's best server browser' with TONS of very nice filters for nearly every multiplayer game in existence.

So...if you're currently running ASE, select 'Update Eye' from the file menu (or keep 'Automatic Updatess selected) to download the updated eye.exe.

If you are NOT using ASE...then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? Now is the perfect time.

In order to add a friend, simply right-click in the Friends box in the lower right hand corner and select 'Add Friend'. In the 'Name' field, simply plug in the in-game name for the friend you want to add. Your friends do NOT have be running or even have ASE installed for this to work.

EDIT: Due to the changes made with the v1.03 patch, you still have to either modify your filters.txt or set up a 'custom config' for Battlefield 2.

Simply right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder icon in the upper left pane of ASE and select 'custom config'. In the 'Cmd line' box, add the following to the end of what is already there and edit with your own username and password:
    Code:
     +username [your_username] +playerPassword [your_password]

Does this new update also allow us to connect directly to a server without having to modify the filters.txt file?

Will ASE allow you to bypass the log-in screen yet (i.e. enter your login info into ASE and connect to the server directly)?

That was already possible with the modefying filter ASE.

I recomend this, its so much better then the ingame filter or any other filter programme...well that what I think.

You still have to either edit the filters.txt or set up a custom config.

Setting up a custom config is easier and more future proof.

          I'll edit my post though.

            Thx Talus.

I'm amazed though that they didn't add the function to join a server directly, esp seeing as Xfire updated last week with this included...!

Yeah..I was sort of expecting that they would have included that fix. I've informed the ASE programmer..so hopefully he'll reply at some point.

But since I use the BF2Connector wrapper for ASE, it doesn't affect me.

I'm just glad that I can finally use ASE to keep track of my friends again.

My copy of ASE 'auto-downloaded' and installed an update this evening . . . now I can't join any games via ASE! I had previously made a post 1.03 patch modification to the 'filter' file of ASE, but can't remember what I did. All I know is I can't use this wonderfull utility to join games any more. Any suggestions are welcomed.

It used to be until yahoo bought it out. now the support is crap and they ditched the lifetime registration for a yearly fee. greedy.

Belated thanks, Talus. The issue was that I had tried to 'restore' a back-up 'filters' file, then perform the command line 'fix' update. Ultimately, I simply unintalled ASE, then reinstalled and added the command line, and all was well again. Appreciate you sharing this info. :)

Just to add to the wealth of info, I've made a page summarizing what you need to do to "do the fix" for ASE for BF2, as well as a fairly detailed description of how to make a filter for BF2 games.

Edit it (it's a wiki, after all) if you see any errors.
