I was commander on a server the other day...I'm an active commander, I don't just sit on my butt in a corner and UAV the whole time.

I know some folks think that's all a commander can do, but, seriously, it takes all of 5 seconds to fire off an UAV, drop arty, or land supplies...and 'scan' is only useful in certain circumstances.

I can't fly a jet and be a commander, and I only helicopter/commander when there's like 5 people on the server, but it's easy enough to drive a tank or vehicle and run around and drop mines or whatever.

Anyway, my team totally freaks out, and every 10 seconds someone types out "moron, you're a commander, you're supposed to hide!"...we're on Karkand, and we lose our tank base in the back. I go all the way over to the marine base, steal their APC, and drive it back to our base, and recapture it.

And STILL my team is crying at me the whole time that the commander should just hide in a corner. Then they tell me to give up the APC, instead of staying back with it and protecting the tank base...they're just too stupid to realize that as long as I have the APC, it's not in the hands of the enemy.

Finally, my own teammates start dropping mines on MY APC, just to keep me from playing.

We still won (12/0), but dayuuuuuuum, what morons.

I agree, you can be an active commander.. I too try to stay active
if I can, but I always stop what Im doing when the UAV runs out to
run another one.. I also drop supplies as much as I can, even if
teammates dont request them..making sure that enemies dont take
advantage of it...and get the supplies rather than my teammate..

It just takes common sense.. and for the most part, the commanders
I see only help themselves out, or do nothing at all, or sit back and
say.. 'oh you got to request that....' what a bunch of bs.

Adressing command scores
You don't get points for either kills of teampoints as a commander. You don't get an average of your team's score either. You get points for people using your supply drops and getting Artillery kills (which are not counted as kills in your stats). The commander is also the only one that gets the X2 bounus for your team winning.

Dispelling more myths here.

I absolutely hate when commanders don't do what their meant to be doing, it really makes me mad. Especially when the mutiny button is disabled.

the only bad thing about the commander is he can see where ur even if ur under a bridge or under cover on a roof top, evedentally he can still see u, I never heard of a radar or camera that can do that, or maybe he spots u under the bridge becomes commander and calls in artillery attacks i don't know , but the point is I have been sniping and shoot a guy 3 or 4 times and **** him off and next thing I know, u guessed it artillery on my ass, and guess again, yeah ur right again it the guy that I ****ed off,:nerr: I know snipers are suppose to move, but I will trade 5 or 10 kills for 1 death anyday, most of my death comes from artillery or that friggin Helo or damn tanks and APCs:evil: as far as commander I guess will have to live with it

Playing on Blacks Ops around 3 today and the same exact situation was going on. The wanna-be commander kept getting in a jet, was TKing a lot and not giving ANY support at all. Ppl started to complain and someone from Blackops said use the Mutiny button...but it isn't enabled.
Commander was yelling at other ppl for his TKs saying it was their fault for being on the runway when he took off.
Then he decided to try commanding but by this time the game was lost 125-275. He then started bitching at ppl for "Running into his Arty Strikes" but he'd call them down on our flags that had enemy in them and not let us try to clear the area first.
A few games of that and a serious lack of teamwork on our side made me quit in real frustration after 6 rounds of it.

Don't commanders know that they are actually LOWERING their score...since their score is an average of the teams total.

I actually had a guy tell me on our server that he was a better commander when he was flying a chopper. I asked him how he could fly and be in the commander screen and he said that it didn't matter because noone was asking for things anyway.

Idiot.

Its a kickable offense on our server. No doubt....but we also have voting disabled because of the constant spamming.

What about spotting enemies that are outside of your UAV area?
What about giving orders to your squads? (yes, I know they rarely listen, but when they do you can do very cool things stratigicly)
What about the fact that you actually lower your own score by capping a flag (as opposed to leting/ordering a teammate to do it)?
What about simply watching the flow of battle unfold so you can predict where the next enemy push is going ot be?

It's doing those things that make me feel a comander is doing his job or not. If you can pull 'em all off while you're in the field, then kudos. I don't have faith that you can be both a field asset and a comander, however.

Last night I was talking to a "fighting" commander and I said why was he fighting? He said that he likes to fight and "is a better commander when he's in the middle of the action."

I said, really, then how do you spot someone heading to capture a flag that is undefended, shouldn't you artillery them? He said that it doesn't matter because we'll just take the base back...

I ask, ok then what about supply drops? He said that he only supplies himself and the people around him who are supporting him fighting.

Ok, then how about letting people know when they are being flanked or ...

Why don't commanders actually command. Don't they know that their points are entirely dependent on the AVERAGE of their teams score. Nothing they do combatwise will help their score.

Now I would think a commander could move himself to an emty base and try to cap the flag...that I wouldn't mind, but this guy would go in the middle of battle dropping artillery and supply crates on himself:
