Re: Kick People Will High Ping!!!!!!!!!!!!

i've played on plenty of servers for hours w/ no lag and nobody complaining of lag. one person joins @ 250+ and suddenly the gameplay goes down the drain.

    myth or fact? you decide.

AMEN! The Z board server is Notorious for this $hit, I decided to give it another chance last nite, was like 4 people with pings above 200, and I swear to God Every helo or APC I was trying to shoot was skipping beats like a damn cardiac patient, LAg from hell. Avoid the Z board server, pings are not thier concern.

it aint the 2-3 200 pingers doing it, I've been in the zboard server plenty of times to know once it goes over 30 or so people it lags like a mother. No offense to zboard or their host, but all of my clanmates flat out avoid 2-3 particular servers...

          zboard - chicago reallly bad
          divo.net - lagfests

Put on the 64 map filter and take a look yourself. You'll see plenty of full 64 man games going on, and then I can guarantee that the above 2 names will have servers with listings like 31/64 etc... Ever wonder why they aren't full? :) People bail due to the horrible gameplay. Find a quality server and stick with it, there are plenty out there that are fairly lag-free..

personally i dont consider anything under 300 as a high ping...especially since these bf2 servers are not very effective in displaying actual ping rates...but as to the myth i played agame the other with a couple 1400 plus pingers and there was lag but then again it was "the return to never liked it in the first place why is it back form the dead waste of my time they shoulda brought back Caen not this lame wake island map"

Technically speaking, someone on cable is running at a much higher netspeed than someone on a weaker connection (dialup, isdn, etc), and is actually taxing the server more than the dial-up user, who has a small amount of bandwidth to move packets back & forth. No, this doenst mean that the people with good connections 'lag' a server, but neither do the hpb's.

A high ping = really 1-2 things... 1. he's hard to hit and will usually warp due to packet loss. 2. he has a hard time hitting you do to the same packet loss.

A server is 'lagging' from one of many other factors... CPU being overloaded, other games on the box loading, connection issues through their provider, etc

The basic idea that someone can roll into a server handling 32-64 connections, and his 250ms ping will suddenly "lag" a dual xenon server is plain idiocy. Do a quick google search and you'll find countless articles on this subject.

I have np with something like bf2cc set to kick @ 200 / 250 etc... heck, they should be playing on their own continent :) But crying over 1-2 guys in a server due to 'lag' is as waste of time...
It all depends on the game engine.... but yes sometimes it can be a number of other factors..

Re: Kick People Will High Ping!!!!!!!!!!!!

If high ping clients cause lag for the server or other clients, that's REALLY BAD NET CODE.

                As in horrible.
There is no reason that the server should wait for high pingers. If a particular client is taking longer to send up their packets, it should be skipping them until the info is recived. Yeah, that makes the high ping client lag, but should have NO effect on anyone else.

                ON THE OTHER HAND:
If there's a server that is having some issues with high PACKET LOSS, it might still show up as having ping but then lagg all over the place. It will likely lag spike for certain clients and give them false high pings.
Then there's servers that just aren't good enough to be running a BF2 server. If the server is overloaded, it's going to start ignoring clients randomly. Again, this can cause lag spikes.

                SO:
Before you start yappin off about placing demands on who to kick, try to have some understanding of that which you are talking about.
                HmmK?

True people with a constant high ping should be kicked But like in my case and this happens every now and then i will join a server and have a 2 something to 300 ping for about 2 mins and alot of the time i get kicked but after that two mins or so it drops down to about 50 so admins should give it a few mins.

What a quality post...(side note we are talking about EA/DICE so bad net code..well...nuff said)

However it is still viable to kick them since they will be a harder target to hit since they are lagging....

OK, so maybe I was wrong to believe it was high pingers causing the lag.

FWIW: I have an Athlon 64 2.4 GHz machine with 2GBs of PC3500 ram, Nvidia 6800 w/256MB, and cable modem so I doubt if it was my rig, probably a crappy server in Europe. :)

Now, if ping is irrelevant in BF2 why is it displayed?

It's definitely fact. Just try hanging around a high ping player, and your lag will get even worse than the average server lag. Even worse, try being his gunner on a ground vehicle.

HPB (High ping b@$tards!) do not affect your gameplay. This is a myth!
Actually you should be happy to have such a guy as your enemy because if the ping is too high then they are just setting there as targets for you. they see you after you kill them!

From their side they see a very smooth game.... but they see everything after you see it. you see them before they see you. they do not affect the performance of YOUR gameplay at all.

Actually I think such people should not be killed. They were not blissed enough to have a high speed connection. People like you just make their life more difficult for nothing.

Ping does not cause lag on the server. The only thing that can cause lag on a server is for them to be sending more information to the net than you in such an atrocious volume that it would be flooding the **** out of the server, and that is nearly impossible because the game only sends so much information in each packet and most servers have a bandwidth choke running that limits how much can be sent/recieved at one time.

The only thing that causes lag on a server is bad network traffic between you and the server, the server not having the proper bandwidth, the server not having the processing or ram specs, and server companies that are trying to shove ten servers onto one box (that happens alot).

If you think that because you see them warping around on your minimap is them lagging out the server, it isn't, that is just the server not getting all the packets on time from them and it constantly readjusting where their current location is on the minimap. It is kind of hard for it to know where the people on the minimap are when it isn't getting the information from them on time or not at all (packet loss), so every time it recieves a packet from them, it updates their new position on the map and it probably wasn't in line with what the server thought their predicted path would be.

So, if you just see one or two people warping around alot in game or on the screen, it is just them with a ****ty ass connection to the server. If you see everyone doing it, it is probably you and server having a ****ty connection to each other. If everyone is having it, it is probably the server getting ready to take a ****, or the server has too much **** running on it at one time (usually noticeable when everyone has good pings but everyone complains of lag) or somewhere on the net very close to the server a node is taking/took a ****.
