    The Kevlar Myth

So I keep wondering, do Assault, Support, and Anti-Tank really have more armour than other kits? I have expereinced that when I play an Armoured kit and I get shot by a sniper I have 2 bars of health left. And when I play a kit without the armour, the sniper does the exact same damage to me. So I just can't get it, how can the sniper do the same damage to both - armoured unit and unarmoured. Just doesn't make any sense.

The .50 cal dosn't care about armor. All other hand-held weaps do, though ('Sept SRAW/Eryxs)

Body armor gives a 33% (or was it 30%? not sure) reduction from small arms fire, with the exception of the M95 sniper rifle which ignores body armor, so it does 95 damage to all classes.

Try the M24 with a friend and see.

Against an unarmored opponent it does 95 damage, against an armored opponent it does 65.

Yes, the 33% is correct. Actually, how it works is kevlar actually acts as a damage modifier. For small arms, like rifle and pistol bullets (basically any handheld gun besides shotguns and the M95), the modifier is .66, so body armour will block 33% of the damage (for example the G3 does 40 damage, so with kevlar it would only do 26.4). The M95 doesn't get any special modifier for kevlar, so it does the same to an unarmoured target as it does an armoured one (the actual damage on the M95 is 190, but it gets a .5 modifier for both regular soldiers AND armoured ones, meaning it will do 95 damage to either). The modifier for shotguns against kevlar is .52, so kevlar absorbs roughly half of the damage from a shotgun.

So yeah, it's a tad more effective than simply giving an extra 10% life.

BTW most of the credit for this information goes to pickled pizza, and his thread in the Tips & Tricks forum.

So that is why when i get the drop on people i still come out dead or almost dead.....but with a 50 cal rifle it should destroy all i have run up to people and praticaly put it in there back and shot and they still live. I have to have like a 4 hour shootout with them with my pistol and get taken down to a bar of life before they die....and speaking of pistols is it just me or is the MEC pistol better then China or USMC?

Pistol are all the same in power and accuracy. But I like the China one best. Looks nice.

One thing we all know is that a point blank shotgun blast will kill you lol. I had high hopes for the M95 but it seems that somedays it can hit anything.

Actually the modifier is .44, not .5; otherwise you are correct on all points. The .5 value must have been in a beta or something because that's also what is on the damage chart which supposedly comes from the 'official guide' to BF2 (showing the M95 with 95 damage).

EDIT: The modifier is actually 0.5.
