    Re: Screen screwed.. Why?

Overheating. Any signs of random bugs or artifacts within a game can be directly pointed to overheating. If DELL hasn't correctly cooled their cards, I wouldn't be surprised they are burning up on BF2. As for the other brand cards, it may be that your case is hot in general, or maybe it is the hot time of year for you?

As for the man jumping from an X300 to an 6600, the X300 is a slower card and so doesn't need cooling. The more Mhz you have passing through the card, the more heat is generated. Most low-end graphics cards these days dont even need fans. Case fans/room temperature are more than adequate. When you jump up to higher-end latest generation chipped cards, heat will jump with it too.

If you have tried the latest drivers with no joy, and this starts happening after a set period of time into a game, I would put my money on the fact that your card is frying itself. When is starts happening, check how hot the side/lower side of your PC tower is. You could also try opening up the case and just checking the temp in there with your hand.

As for how to deal with it, try opening up your case and playing for a while, or even better, buy a case fan/GPU fan and see what happens.

The GPU has a fan over it but I don't think that the memory chips, or whatever they are, do. I'll look into getting a better cooling system I think, recommendations are welcome. Although I have no money

Ok at the moment the GPU core temperature is running at 59c. I stopped playing BF2 about 10 minutes ago as it screwed up. Is this too hot? Also would this work with a 6600GT?

          Re: Screen screwed.. Why?

59c is ok, actually, but you really need to know the temp just as BF2 buggers up. I would expect 59c from my card -whilst- under strain, so if that is the default running temperature, theres a problem somewhere.

No, that fan is built around the 6800 chipset layout, not the 6600. I'll have a look for a 6600 one.

At the bottom of this page they have a 6600GT cooler: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...c_Cooling.html

I would reccomend just buying some case fans first, personally. My 9800Pro used to burn up, and games would lock, get buggy...etc. I got myself:

          2x 80mm Case Fans

          1x 120mm Case Fan

          1x Case Exhaust Fan

All is lovely now, no problems.

It's gone up to 64c after about 40mins of playing. I'll try a new case fan then I think. Will they fit any case? Mine's a Dell.

These replies seem to appear anywhere they feel like

64c... thats not THAT bad to be honest.... hmm

You need to look inside your Dell to see if there is any room for new fans. If there is, measure between the two screw holes (not diagonally like a TV), and this will give you fan size. They could be:

              60mm
              80mm
              92mm
              120mm

ps: remove that image, or edit some of the crap from on of your posts above, its messing up the forum layout.. lol

Well, I can only give you advice from experience. This is what I think it could possibly be, but it could be some other things that I have never heard of before! If the fans dont work, i'd start to be concerned about the condition of your card. How is it in other games?

I'm not sure. I've only played BF2 since I got it. It got up to 80c before and i've got my window open and it's cold out. I'm going to have to be really careful about how long I play for. Kind of annoying as i've got a week off college.

Yeh, it was bloody freezing yesterday! That and wet and windy. 80c isn't right, in my opinion. At the most I was reaching 56c with my 9800Pro, with idle around 20c/30c.

Mine's now idling at 49c after just turning it on. I'm now wondering if my power supply will have enough output to support more fans. My brother said something about 4.5amps x 240, I assume that's volts But I'm a little sceptic about it being 1080Watts.
