Those would be Army, can tell by the shoulder insigs and the uhhh Bradley, USMC don't have Bradleys in the real world. And whoever made the last post, 250,000 per insurgent, LMAO, do you know that each soldier/marine carries 210 rounds into a battle? do you know how long and how many guns it would take to fire 250,000 rounds in a day? And Believe me, the insurgents expend way more rounds, 1. because they dont maintain thier weapons because they are untrained mule's asses, and 2. they fire thier weapons like thier popping caps with 2pac in Juice.

Hehe. Nice theory. How many rounds did they expend into that building vs. rounds that actually fired back? US forces have expended 2 BILLION ROUNDS fighting insurgents so far in Iraq. Tried to find the original CNN article, but this one might help

210 rounds per person? OK, how many did that squad fire off? Probably 1000 at least between the 8 or so of them. Multiply that by hundreds of squads and you have your answer.

Not to burst the bubble of any marines and the actions they continued on through in Fallujah.... BUt it was not OUR (The US's) 1st week in Fallujah. What most people dont realize (Or possibly dont care) that We were in fallujah for a year before the Marines got there. 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment (3ACR) had control of Fallujah with little under a Cavalry Squadron's number of soldiers (Under 1000) and we also had Hit, Ar Ramadi and some othe little **** ant locations. (Well.... we will say control is probly a stretch of the word as V-Corps (CJTF-7) didnt think that area was hostile enough to warrant a BDE or DIV in that region.) 3ACR controled the area from Fallujah to the Syrian Border, and Al Qaim south to the Jordanian border. Much larger area than is doctrinally given to a Cav Regiment (The term used was "Economy of Force"). After we left fallujah, 82d AB moved in..... Then the Marines.

The fighting was no less intense for either of the other two units there, Simply a different allocation of Media traveling along with them to cover the fights.

What the video doesnt show well, and I might be wrong on the individual tactics used in this fight but am speaking from my time and events there, is while the soldiers are suppressing the area... or "Wasting ammo shooting at bldgs" (To paraphrase others comments here) there is more than likely an assault team moving to the bldg to initiate clearing procedures that is not caught on tape. I can almost guarentee you there is more than 1 person there (for the person who asked if they are only shooting at the 1 head seen about 12 seconds into the video)... I might be wrong, but I would doubt it.

It is a good video of a Suck situation in a crappy little city that was pretty uncontrolled even during Sadam's Regime

Yes, the army was there before the Marine Corps. However, Falluja (a terrorist safe haven) wasn't secure until the Marines secured it.

Or secured as in Bush's "the war is over" speach (was it really 2 years ago?)?
Or maybe you mean secured as in everyone is dead?

Really, if you're going to **** over who secured what, you must explain how this magical "securment" makes an difference what-so-ever.

Exactly. These insurgents/terrorists/freedom fighters are not entirely stupid. I cant imagine any of them being as dumb as to open up guns a' blazing on a squad of US troops given the severe reprocussions. Hit and run tactics and sniping are the order of the day. These arent the Somalis in Black Hawk Down, some of them are former Iraqi troops hardened by decades of fighting.

On the flipside, and as the video shows, the US forces tactic is to fire and keep firing, supress the enemy by putting as many rounds as possible into a building suspected of harbouring insurgents, then wait till armor or air support shows up to clear out the building.

One thing I wonder though, why are they using an SRAW on a building? Do these fire HE rounds as well as AP? I woulda thought an M203 round would have been better?

Ah. Woulda thought there would have been a better peice of kit to use though, and wouldnt you want to ensure the bad guys were taken out rather than just have the building raised?

Like some WP rounds or something. Surprising the US military havent got a specialist weapon for clearing a building quickly rather than improvising with an Anti-tank weapon, especially given most US military engagements at present (and for the last few years) have been in urban areas and not the traditional sort (i.e. there are no tanks to take out now in Iraq to my knowledge).....

I'm sure they do have some neat toys for making buildings into parking lots, but sometimes you just gotta go with what you've got on hand, ya know?

As pointed out, that unit looks like they were doing a supression opp. Chances are, they were a fast deployment unit and don't pack every toy around with 'em.

On the other hand, the US millitary has been rather slow figuring out that the modern battle field is mostly urban and infantry based.
I mean, hell, troops are still using their flack-jackets to line the inside of humvees because the armor on 'em is usless.

Very true. Just seems weird to see equipment like the SRAW deployed in an urban environment. A munition which gets fired into a room and gets very hot very quick would be handy in clearing them out.

Maybe they need to progress development on the M1A3 MBT...

Actually... it is still not secure. Never meant to take anything from the Marines....

And where the Marines put a few battalions... the 3ACR only had 2 Cav troops. (Approx 144 soldeirs per troop) So you could almost mathmatically expect to be a more secure area.

You are absolutely correct in themanner in which you use control. Your and my use of the word control were different. I did not mean to imply that we had the situation "under control"... It was more along the lines that we had Fallujah as our AO. Just a misunderstanding of terms.
