Could this have something to do with my hardware firewall? I have Windows XP SP2's firewall off but definitely have the hardware firewall on...

Depends on how it's configured. While router/firewall/switches can be set to filter traffic within the local network, they normally don't by default. You'll have to look at it. Maybe even disconnect the cable from the internet then turn the firewall off to test it.

You'll probably need to look at the manual (can probably download from the manufacturer). I've only worked with a D-Link DI-524 and I'm not really an expert with firewalls.

I've already looked at the manual and didn't find anything that seemed relevant. I'll look again.

I got it working!

My anti-virus software has a built in firewall. I forgot about that. I turned it off an viola, it works! I forwarded 16000 to 17000 on my router and now in works over the net too.

There are at least 4 mods with larger maps for SP/Co-op play. Codebasher did the first one I know of.
