Exactly how can you actually get 'sick of' the window?

I mean I play the game as though it wasn't even there. Yout don't have to look at it you know :)

It's unnecessary. It's not like we get updates frequently from EA. There will probably be 3 new messages from EA within the next 12 months.

When I first saw it I thought that it was a great way to get info to players on new maps/patches as there are still players today discovering that a patch came out 3 weeks ago.
But it seems that the display message is hardcoded into the game. In order to see that there is a 1.03 patch available you need to install the 1.03 patch first !

Would it have been difficult to make it an inbuilt HTTP browser that only appeared if there was a update?

You don't actually have to click on the message. The 'open' & 'close' button suggest that you have to click on one of them but you don't. Just hit 'multiplayer' as usual :)

It stops auto joining via the aid of 3rd party gaming progs like Xfire and ASE although there are fixes available now.

                    :)

                          :)

No it doesn't. DiCE updated the login system so that you must have your login and password entered into the program that you use to connect to the BF2 server. The popup only appears to break it as it's the first thing you notice when you login in.
