AAAAARRRGGHHHH - ****ing public servers - If you dont want to play with your team - go play with yourself in a cupboard or something. Sorry - the people who play this game make me so annoyed sometimes.

Anyway, I killed someone with the sniper rifle today - go me. I followed some of the good advice given here and was patient. IT did take two shots to the head though so I'm still not impressed.

After 18 years of one side winning a 2-nation competition, we kind and generous aussies decided to give the Ashes back to the poms. Just once. We'll take it back in 07. Okay, sure, it was an abysmal performance. but we proved it was an aberration only last week! by winning 3 one-dayers easily, and a test match with 2.5 days to spare, all against the best of the rest of the world!!!!! fair effort.... no?

IT did take two shots to the head though so I'm still not impressed.

You missed. 1 shot to the head = dead, no matter what rifle.

BF2 is not really a game for snipers - they are no more than a mild annoyance to other players. It is hard for a sniper to kill with one shot, and then the enemy is alerted to their presence, making the sniper knife bait. I love to hear a close-by rifle shot with no ping of a missed shot, I know he is close and doesn't see me (because he is looking through his scope), and out comes the knife...

I get killed more by claymores while hunting snipers than by sniper rifles!

I consider myself a fairly seasoned sniper and I will give you a few hints I've picked up over my time...

1) Patience - This is an absolute must... I will sometimes sit for a good long while before they come into view.

2) If you have unlocked the M95, Don't use it as USMC... the M24 Owns and I ONLY use it when sniping helipads

3) For extra kicks, sneak into the enemy base and plant claymores near/under their vehicles... when someone goes to the vehicle... BOOM

4) ALWAYS go prone or at least crouch... your accuracy goes up immensely

5) Find shadows, tree trunks, brush, etc... anything to break up your sillouette

6) Avoid Cranes like the plague... That is definately THE first place I look when I see my buddies getting sniped...

7) Move slowly when you're close to the enemy... don't give away your position by running up to the enemy base and then going prone... they'll see you every time.

8) That said, MOVE A LOT... you WILL be artilleried if you don't move often.

9) Aim for the very crown of the head, EVERY time... Bullet drop IS in this game... I've seen proof, however, it does not take effect until the distance becomes quite high. If you're close, aiming for the crown will strike the forehead, far away, it should get their chin (Still a headshot)

10) Do lead, but as someone said above, aim for the very leading outline of the body... if you aim several feet in front of them, you will miss unless the distance is very great.

11) Don't try taking 600m potshots... the physics and hit detection are abysmal at best in BF2... move closer, thats why you're camoflauged

12) Don't get too close, I've found I'm MOST accurate at 150-200m

13) In smaller city maps, experiment with the M95... it has a faster bolt action than the M24 which can save your life in a close engagement, also, it is more effective on the NUMEROUS Anti-Tank and Assault classes in those maps.

14) Personally, I have heard to avoid building tops... I am very rarely spotted on a building top, but when I am, it could have been avoided by picking a less conspicuous place... If you do go rooftop. hide under a sattelite dish or next to an air vent or SOMETHING... don't just hang off the side of the building...

15) Recently, I have been doing quite well with firing once with the sniper rifle, then finishing with pistol... don't be afraid to open up with that silenced pistol (they won't know where it's coming from and you have 6 clips).

16) Remember that claymores only damage in one direction... you can put one directly behind you as long as you're facing the direction you want it to shoot shrapnel in when you place it. (A nice escape strategy is when you know you're being followed, find a building, get on one side of the building and put claymores facing each corner... he's gonna come around one of them)

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head...
