    Taking out a chopter :-)

    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me, is it possible to do any significant damage to a chopter or pilot using a standard machine gun? Sometimes I've tried to batter one when its hovered right overhead. Am I wasting my time or is some damage actually done?

I was also thinking - when a choper is hit with an anti tank missile, I really should go down - or at least be very badly damaged - smoke and **** coming out of it. I'm sure I've hit a hind with 3 antitank missiles and the £$%^£$ still wouldnt go down - they can take out a 60 ton tank with ablative armour but don't do much to a whirlybird. :-(

Actually, I think it'd be cool if, if you managed to score a hit on the tail rotor, it started to circle out of control, or if you hit the main rotor it would start to crash but the pilots would still be able to bail. eg, it wouldnt just explode, it would go down more realisticly. I think that would be cool :-)

    Kindest Regards All

    :-)

      Combat choppers:

2 shots with an anti tank rocket
      2 stinger missles
      2 plane missles
      6 grenade launcher shots

      transport choppers:

      3 rockets
      3 stingers
      3 plane missles

M95 can shoot through the glass, the only machine guns that are any good ones are the .50 cal guns on DPV's and vonik ect. and the PKM but it will take alot of bullets, unless its smoking or you just want to damage it there isn't much point in firing.

I recommend leaving the PKM at home and using the guns mounted on the jeeps.

            Exacly..

Take cover behind a building with a jeep in the area the helicopter is attacking, so you know it will fly over, and fail to see you. Open up in short/long bursts, aim at the cockpit, and he will go down in NO time.

A couple of times now I have found myself under an enemy helicopter where the gunners cant see me or cant aim the guns down far enough to get me. Now, ususally I dont have a weapon that will bring down the helicopter itself, instead I just aim at the legs hanging over the sides. You can get 3 or 4 kills easy, as well as killing the gunners as the copter spins trying to locate the source of fire. Its really funny to see the bodies falling out the side of the helicopter!!!

I just love sniping hover noobs out of their cockpit and seeing the whole BW crash into the nearest building.

                  Oooh teh satisfaction!!!!

The PKM and other personal machine guns do little to jacksquat against helis. It can take more than two whole clips of MG ammo to take down a chopper and usually it will fly away long before they let you do that.

You can use the L85 and steal some-guy-in-a-Vodnik's points by shooting it whilst it's in flames =D

You are wise in the ways of anti-helicopter combat.

The PKM does enough damage to at least scare pilots away, and that's sometimes all you need. But yeah, unless the pilot really sucks or the chopper's already about to go down, you're not going to be actually shooting down many choppers with it.

Any of the mounted MGs found in maps (non-kit/vehicle) are effective.

The PKM just gives your position away and makes a lot of noise. I'd prefer to have a helicopter hovering inches above me and not know I'm there, rather than having it nearby and my PKM giving it a nice, big, red damage indicator compromising my position (nevermind the muzzle flash).

I recommend bringing a jeep to every party, or using a TOW or stinger. I've bagged more helicopters than I can count using the jeep-top guns - it's just the way to go.
