Re: New generation game!! 1944: D-DAY
Hi Lads
Im the lead programmer, the guys above posting are fans of the series thus far. I want to clear up a few points.
Firstly this is D-Day 1944 : Operation Overlord, let there be no confusion on this, it is the Invasion of Europe.
We have included All nations into the development, that means we are not forgeting any nation, and it will not be a US centric game. You can play equally as much as Canada, Polish, Austrailia, New Zealand, UK, Germans etc.
Every nation is covered, and every WW2 weapon that we have thus far researched will feature. If we come across more weapons they will also feature.
The map is merely one huge persistent map. Its basically all of Normandy and should give the player around 30 days straight of gameplay. If you are exceptionally good you may clear the game in 15 days, but more likely first few plays will last around 60+ days. Now thats full days, so 60x24 hours.
The game is dynamic it is not designed around one nation, or one set of stories, but rather around what makes up the event. In our case the event is the Operation, and what makes up the event, is all of the Nations and Armed Forces, their reources, and their plans. These have all been heavily researched and we are currently putting these into play.
When the game starts you simulate these events, so the AI does what it can to achieve the goals and objectives which can dramatically change from what happened, because of knock on effects. If one target is missed or failed, then the whole operation can change direction.
This is all dynamic, the AI is the control here, not scripts. So you could potentially start as germany and push back the allies.... Its a game that shows the scope of the Operation not the actual events.
Now the way the AI is designed you can play a single player campaign. If you put the same campaign on a sever you can replace an AI unit by a player upto a limit where the hardware is limited (so around 128 - 512 players online perhaps more if we get larger servers)
