I had trouble too. Play a 64 man server of Mashtuur City. Play medic. Spawn camp. I got it twice (server crashed on me the first time).

I agree that that the badges and the ribbons thing is just a joke! it rminded me with the childhood days when you do well the teacerh puts a star on your drawing!

Back to business! the basic kine is a very easy one to get! seriously! all you have to do is to use the knife when possible. the knife is a very powerfull weapon! do not get me wrong! one hit one kill!

I usually do not use the knife, but one day I said what the hell! let's try it! I was amazed! seriously!!!

You do not have to carry the knife and keep running like an idiot! just use it in a very close range combat.

At best I'm an average player and I had no problem getting 7 knife kills.

totaly agree with that! 5 or 7 knife kills are easy! you do not even have to plan for it! just use the knife when necessary. maybe I am saying that because I am used to close range combats because of the DAO-12 which is basicaly my main weapon. (I love it BTW!). I even found the knife to be more effective than the DAO in many cases. one hit one kill!

Yea, Its all about Knowing when to use the knife, Like dont be stupid and run infront of tanks, or groups of the enemy, Just go lone wolf and follow enemy's until you can knife them.

Basic knife is 7 kills, I can tell you this because I got my badge onle a few days ago, was the most hard badge ever to get for me (not good with knife).

TIP : go on a 64 player karkand server, only and only use your knife, run of the hill (USMC side, right spawn point) and go to the left of the building, then around the corner most of the time some MEC is there waiting and knife him, if no MEC is there run further.

It took me like 10-15min to get 7 kills with it and getting the badge and 14 deaths , lucky for me the round wasn't over so I could take revenge , after getting the badge I took my M16 and ended the round 15/15 K/D ratio

Worrying about how many knife kills it takes is about as lame as worrying about kill to death ratios.

that is the mentality of BF42 veterans I guess! the mentality of most of the new guys to Battlefield series is getting more points and badges and stupid ribbons. Many people forgot that they should play to win and have fun, not to stockpile worthless points and stats and awards...

I have lots of fun, and I always play for the win. Always. I'm either assaulting a base or on my way. I believe in capping flags. I played bf42 since before the retail game was released.

I also play to get badges and ribbons and medals. Because I can. It's just one more challenge. Is there something that says you can't challenge yourself in this game? These badges and things aren't even that hard to get. I picked up my basic and veteran knife at the same time (unfortunately, I SHOULD be a First Sergeant, but alas...) on Sharqi, knifing MEC snipers at the beginning of the round, up in the hills. Easy as pie.

Yea man, agreed. The badges and stuff just give you something to work for and gets you to experiment and play around with all the kits in the game. I love my G3 but been trying to get vet kit badges so been playing as medic a lot lately, I now love the L85! You can still easily play to win and also try and get the badges. Hell, when I was going for my knife badge, I did so well I ended up being in the top 3 on my team and I wasn't even using a gun!

I have had 4 knife kills a few times and thought about getting the badge, then the team starts losing flags and I forget all about badges and just play the game, I suppose if I really asserted myself I could do it, and I will try as long as it doesn't mean the team will lose.

basic is 7 kills IAR



vet is 7 kills IAR, plus 50 kills total with a knife


i've gotten both recently, vet today. it was hard on a very populated server, but i found a server with less than 15 people on it who werent 'good', and went at it.

the sad part? it was mostly clanners, and i was only using knife and armor (my body armor as a support) and scored top two times (two gold stars...using a friggin KNIFE!)

I recieved my basic,veteran, and expert knife badge in a knife and pistol server. They are scarce but fun. I ended up getting over 50 knife kills in 1 round.

aha, you got overall 165 kills with the knife. and you got 50 in one round?

It's all good fun, keeps a bit of variety going. Every now and then I "go for a badge" just to keep myself on my toes, and who knows I might descover new methods I wouldn't have thought of using before.

I need to get basic knife and pistol so might have to have a blast on a big Karkand map. Could be fun. Tried to get basic explosives but after what seemed like a million kills with mines I didn't get it Not sure if it was a dodgy server or if I need to use C4? Anyone done it with mines?

You wil probably kill more teammates than enemies if you use alot of mines so be careful. most of the kids out there punish for anything.
