Sennheiser HD 595's are simply the best! Low impedency means you don't need to spend a ****load on an amp to get great quality sound and compuplus.com has them for $175 I think. It is a steal!When I got mine the other day it changed the entire sounds of BF2, it is simply amazing.

i did use the Logitech one that came with Socom 2 for a long time, now i use the Sennheisser PC 150

Its awsome, amazing bass too

Well, it needs to be a normal audio plug headset - not a USB one. This is because I'm using Windows x64 on my gaming rig, and none of the manufacturer's have 64-bit drivers for their USB headsets. I guess this rules out the Plantronics DSP and similar products.

LoL I hope you are joking. Those are nothing more than budget headphones, real gamers get top of the line stuff, not budget. If you want the best soound for a great price, like I said go with the HD 595's.

Gamer's headsets never seem to last. Over the years, I've been through several different brands of varying quality. I opted for Technics RP-F290 Hi-Fi headphones and a Logitech usb desktop mic which I've had over a year now.
Consider splashing out on some good Hi-Fi stereo or surround sound headphones. They'll last longer and sound better.

www.sennheiser.com anything made by sennheiser over 50 bucks is good (usually). ive used surround headphones and stereo headphones and my stereo HD497's and 555's sound way better than anything that isnt stereo. reason being is more detailed drivers. u can still hear people sneaking up on you and tell where bullets are comming from. my $0.02

Get Sennheisers 160 version of their headset line. It supports surround type sound and doesn't have the expensive lineout/mic to USB adapter that other models have (ps the 150 line doesn't support the surround sound it's cheaper for that reason).

You simply plug the 2 wires into the sound card, lineout/mic and you're done. If ever the usb sound solution get 64-bit windows support you can just buy the adapter, they sell it separately (expensive though. Of course you're buying a sound card itself + the usb adapater of course).

Most people marvel at the clarity of speech via the microphone and the deep base that comes from thes earphones.

neither, you need the medusa 5.1 surround headset with mic . It's brilliant, especially if you have a 5.1 or above soundcard such as the soundblaster audigy.
It comes in two flavours, USB with integrated 5.1 soundcard, or preferably if you already have a decent sound card, the non USB which comes with an amp.

I recently purchased a Creative X-Fi, so I think the sound output from my computer should be rather decent - thanks for your replies so far guys, once I make my decision I'll let ya know!
