Would you play an ancient warfare version?

Yes would you play a Roman/Medevil time themed version of BF2 with swords for man to man combat. Bows, crossbows for distant shooting, horse drawn chariots for running over noobs etc.. Storming castles etc

No, because it would be boring :) I like that modern stuff. I like BF2 more then BF1942 because of modern guns. I always like to play games that are set in todays reality.

It might work if it were done well. For starters you'd have to have a good interface for the "sword/shield" so that you could attack/block and execute a variety of combo-moves.

Close-quarter fighting would be a bloodbath. If there were tons of people hacking away at each other, survival would depend more on luck rather than judgement.

Warhorses would be quite cool. Crossbows/longbox would be skilled weapons where you'd have to take in to account angle and perhaps even wind, but they'd be deadly.

Siege-towers with ladders allowing attackers to climb on them whilst they're moving and get in to position to jump over a wall to get an enemy flag (whom we are assuming are defending on the ramparts).

To sum up, could be an excellent game if executed correctly. Would be a total nightmare if rushed and/or done badly

A 64 player close quarter sword weilding, hack fest on a small map LOL. You would feel the red mist of battle within yourself lol.

Maybe you could have Human Vs Orcs
There would be no tk punishes heh

It would work... but it would be hard to do.
Id play it... and if it were done "right" id play it alot more then the modern version, cause i love medieval warfare.

i think blockin with shields would be a mistake... that makes it a RPG or more "RPG Like". youd need to stick with weapons that were made to be shot and/or thrown. Spears, Bows, X-Bows, maybe slings.

figuring out how to take out the "tank like" vehicles... catapults and what not... would be a chore too. not to mention what you do for secondary weapons, like the grenades... land mines... C4 and Caymores.

Well, we could have incendiary arrows... perhaps even some of the early cannons (with a stonking 45minute + reload time!)

Re: Would you play an ancient warfare version?

How cool would it be to have a castle, and engineers building catapults and stuff. You get to jump in one and smash a hole in the wall. What about a 'horse' vehicle, so you could have cavalry?

If done well with good gameplay, it would be ace and I'd play it for sure. However, if it's just "replace knife with sword and just click to instantly stabkill someone" it might get a bit dull.

But yeah..it'd be so cool to attack a castle as a team, where you're just one man in an army of other players online. Master archery and defend the castle from the walls!

              I'd love a medieval battlefield 2 mod.

Instead of using C4 to destroy tanks... they could use fire and burn the catapults to the ground... :p

I think it would be pretty damn cool. Especially if you had good animated type of horses for example. The sounds would be pretty amazing if done right. Kinda like the movie 'Troy'.

                      i wouldnt...cos i hate medieval stuff...let alone ancient stuff.

im getting pretty bored of WW games (WW2 being as ancient as i can stomach)...if the WWs hadnt happened, the PC games market would be very different.

Things happening in military circles now are FAAAAAAAAR more interesting than older stuff.

Well i love the sound of it. If i had the knowledge of how to make a mod of this i would, but i dont

But it would be a seriousally go mod if anyone could do it, and do it well.

Are we talking Rome: Total War on a FPS scale??? I would be more than willing to play that or to even help with that... I'm just getting started on Maya 7.0 myself and may be able to help with modeling.

BF 2's netcode is too sh1tty to effectively simulate accurate hand-to-hand combat timing.
