As commander you can leave the experienced dudes to it and concentrate on resupplying and UAV the lesser experienced guys.
Same in a squad, i like to know what job/class/mission to allocate peeps and the ranking system helped identify those capable of acheiving said goals.
Something many people are keen to point out (and have already done so in this thread...) is that rank is NOT an indication of skill or playing level! So being able to work out ranks easier still won't show you who is a better player or not.

Imagine a guy with 20K points and a 0.1 k/d ratio, and a guy with 5K points and a 1.5 k/d ratio. Is the guy on a higher rank the better player?

Odviously i have to take into account the stat whores and those that got there points in the air and are incapable of street fighting but it has helped me in the past quite a lot.

Read the bottom paragraph. the one you emitted.

It's not work. It's a game. You didn't work hard, you played hard.

The awards are for you, noone else. Noone cares what rank you are but yourself. Noone cares what badges, medals of ribbons you have except for yourself. YOU know you "worked hard" for them, so why should it matter?

I have seen so many different ranks while playing in a server it's good before it was just L corp and Corps all over the place with a few sergeant's dotted in them, now it's the full spectrum of ranks, which I think is a much better.

Also to those peeps who say those that have loads of points and ranks are sad etc and spend all there time on Batt2. So what if it makes them happy.
Surely if they use there love for the game to learn improve and pass on tips to all it must improve gameplay for all.

I myself have played nothing else apart from my race sim since the demo. No other game has taken me like Batt2. The variety keeps my interest where as other titles i have had i've always had 1-2 other games running on alongside.
All my points medals/ribbons/awards have been won on foot (cept Gunner of course) and i am chuffed to bits with them all. For me its recognition for the time i have put in to the game/hobby i love.
If that makes me sad then so be it but contact concise for me and get them to change the definition of Sad to Happy as a Pig in ****.

This is not a whinge but my thoughts on the game. As far as i am concerned EA gave me Batt2 and i am confident they are striving to improve it all the time. Since the demo i have loved it.
They have my support and my Thanks.

That was my point exactly. I personally have a wife and family to look after as well as a full time job and a busy social life, so I didnt have a lot of time to commit to the game myself. But I did like to think atleast the few hours a week I did "waste" on BF2 were at least going towards something. BF2 brought something quite unique and it fun was actually earning the ranks and awards as well as having a great time playing.

If you ask me its the guys who kept banging on about lower rank scores who actually took the ranking system a little too seriously. After playing since release I was quite proud and happy to be ranked at a lance corporal. I know I had earned the ranks after my time, even though there were others with higher ranks and I was nowhee near getting them I as very happy to be a lowly LCPL. I respected the guys withthe higher ranks because 9 times out of 10 they were really good or experienced players.

But then we got all thw moans from kids and bloody single minded idiots who would rather just be contending for the top rank after just 4 weeks of playing. Its gone mad, I was in a game last night and everyone was just a really high sergeant, regardless of their experience in the game.

As already stated, for me the ranks were an good indication of experience in the game, and now thats been lost. So what if it is only a case of "time to waste" on the game, who cares, the fact remains they have indeed spent that time playing on the game and are therefor a much more experienced player.

I have no problem with weapon unlocks as they dont really give a significant advantage , so im not sure why people started banging on about that. Perhaps they should have even been used as another seperate achivement other than ranks and awards to give another little stepping stone between ranks or awards, for those impatient kids who demanded lower rank scores.

I intended for me and my clan to be playing the game for a good while yet, and fully supporting it with an official ranked server during this time. However now with a much reduced awards system, all its going to mean is that I will be dropping our ranked server for a much less expensive unranked server in a month or so when everyone has earned a really high rank. I can see many other clans doing the same thing.

Re: EA have spoilt ranks etc

Look, I have a simple solution to this farce: create virtual ranks in any given server based on actual ranks to give perhaps one or two players the top virtual ranks, with appropriate subordinates under them, all based on a set limit for each rank. ****ing simple ****, and it makes it very easy to recognize ranks. That way, you won't have to deal with one million sergeants in every server. Savvy ??

I should ****ing work for Dice.

To me it was better when not everyone could be an extert in every aspect of the game! It's totally underminded the ranks and awards I worked hard to achive before the update, now there are clowns on our server who have the same rank and awards as the good players yet aren't half the player they are. I think EA have just given in to the 13 year old kids who want to be uber leet in their first week of playing and that sux the big one.
Dude just because some people dont have 15 hrs a day to play BF2 like you and other, doesnt mean you have to complain about the new system that helps people me out who dont play BF2 hours on end a day because we actually have lifes. The new system is fine,in fact they should lower some of the badges and change some of the hours for medals and 1 ribbon(war ribbon that is).People play the game to have fun not to rank up points, the awards are just there to keep the game fun

You thick twat, READ THE BLOODY POST I MADE ABOUT THREE POSTS UP! You are exactly the type of nob I was talkign about who has the real issue with ranks "just cos we dont have 15 hours a day...blah blah blah" AS i already said u retard, I only get to play a few hours myself, but I actually dont care that I'm not the uber ranked player on every server, I actually like the idea of having to play for months to earn my awards.

For the guy who recommended messing around with our own ranks based on ingame ranks, nah too complicated. That was the whole point of it being done automated via the ranked server. It means I dont have to waste time that I dont have working out ranks.

And lastly, no it doesnt make good buisness sense at all because, like i say, many clans are just going to drop ranked servers much sooner than they would have because ranks wont be an issue anymore when every 12 year old kid is a sergeant major.

It never WAS an issue! Just ignore the little icon next to a person's name and play: honestly, what's the difference between ranked and unranked ? The unlocks ? Who cares. Seriously, you folks will complain about practically anything if given the option...

Re: EA have spoilt ranks etc

If it never was an issue then why bother changing it at all?

And I''ll tell you the diffrence between ranked and unranked - we are PAYING extra for a ranked service! A service, i might add that does all the ranking and rewarding aspects of friendly yet competitive gaming for us in the form of an official ranked server. The ranks and awards are there as added incentive in the game and as an incentive to play the game for a longer period of time, which makes it easier to run a clan and have a permanant server - this was part of the selling point for me.

When running and participating in a clan it adds a nice little competitive edge on to things and adds something called longitivity to the game (we wont all be playing mario cart vs sonic the heghog next week kids!). The developers have now gone and taken much of the challenge and compition out of game by doing exactly what many of you are saying the reduced ranks and award scoring reduced - intensive gaming periods!

Kids now will play for short periods of time just to get to the next ranks and can quickly achive many accolades in shirt, intensive and infrequent stints. I think its a bit out of order especially since I (and my clan members) am paying a considerable amount EXTRA to run a ranked server for the challenge of a long steady and rewarding accolade system that I was sold.

Re: EA have spoilt ranks etc

so many people on both sides of this debate are crazy... each side makes a valid point and the other then disregards the point made, makes a new, valid one, and then moves on to have the cycle repeat.

basically what patch 1.03 came down to was unlocks that were unatainable for "casual players" and ranks and metals that "meant nothing" and were based off time rather then skill.

no one seems to even want to consider any other degree of functionality the pre 1.03 system (ranking and ulocks) had on the game, and percedes to yell out "it woulda taken years to get this" or "i cant play 24/7 and i want more then x unlocks"

personally i think pre 1.03 was ment to have the average player with somewhere between 1-2 unlocks. why give everyone all the unlocks? why give them any (if theyre balanced and give no real advantage)? why not give them x number, and a larger group to choose from. sounds like a plan to me... whats that do for us? well... it certainly adds a dynamic level to the game... i mean... how often do you say to yourself now... "i want that kit he was carrying when i kill him... i dont have that unlock and id like to play it" or even how often do you see on fourms such as these "what should i unlock?" that sorta thought into a game, IMO can only be good.
this system, and the fact that the unlocks are balanced with the default weapons really doesnt give anyone an advantage...just diversity. All the pro 1.03 patch players who like to say ... "its no advantage... its not fair... why should i have to put in x hours to get the guns" are really only complaining over 1 thing ... "whaaa mommy i want the toy"

ranks themselves i guess there fine IMO post 1.03. i mean id like to see more thrown in that seperate those between 20K and 50K ... and then those from 50K to 200K (i think thats the next) but what can you do... today rank doesnt mean nearly as much as it used to.

so maybe its the badges and metals?
it was definetly a bitch to get em... specially expert badges and most of the metals. but i kinda liked that it was. i mean if i really wanted to be an expert with the support... well ida put in the time and pretty much played support. my game woulda evolved to a certain playstyle, my unlock would have undoubtedly been the PKM, and when i finally get the badge... veteran, and expert... it woulda been very satisfying. now... its a matter of "gotta catch em all" pokemon crap.... and thats hardly fun IMO. its ... play the class a bit and the ranks/metal/badges will come... plain old plain old. sad.

now as i opened, i know i said both sides are crazy, and im obviously on one side rather then the other... i acknowledge that "casual gamers" felt slighted, and hey... maybe collecting meaningless "huh wow... i got a ribbin... didnt expect that" rewards is what everyone wanted... but come on...

if rank ment nothing other then time... what was the problem? the commander position?

if theres no advantage in unlocked weapons ... who cares? the effect we have now... is the same as if EA said ... "thats it were takin em away!"

metals badges and ribbons ... well everyone is or near veteran, and it means nothing but personal gratification anyway.

if i had my way... youd need to become atleast a Vet in a class to get an unlock rather then rank = unlock. but that... and this entire post are my opinions only.
