Ok the problem were going to fix here is the browser issue. Most of you know the servers do not come up when 7-8+ filters are selected (doesn't matter what filters you have selected, 7-8+ filters will mess it up).

Ok look at your filters most are checked to about hmmm 7-8 if not all of them. Filters as in battlecommo ranked same version etc.

Select 6 random filters (Doesn't matter wich one) and apply them then update and tell me what you get? Hmmm looks like the servers that won't show up normally...Bravo

Hmm look at that when you check around hmmm 7-8 of the filters it jacks up? Why? Idk don't ask me I just found a fix, Prob being too specific in some way and the filters are getting bugged up.

Doesn't matter what 6 filters you choose it will always show the servers, When you select 7-8 filters it bones you and doesn't show anything...Gay isn't it? Yes it is.

Anywho theres my 2 cents let me know if this doesn't work and if it doesn't.....Well...Idk your screwed.

Can a mod verify and approve of this please? If so and it does work request for a sticky. Also I posted in the tips and tricks forum to get this spreaded and into the open to see if it works for other people.

Ok people I need your help on this to test this out and see if it works. Mods or admins cannot sticky this unless it gets tested first. Now this worked for me and I want to see if it works for this community and everyone else. I seriously think this should clear up a lot of server browser problems with it not displaying anything and lower the rage bar against EA....(For Now). Post your god damn results and let us know if this works or not.

Anyone have a fix for the other half dozen problems with the server

like.. when you search for a string, i.e. '24' and it lists those servers..
then you want to go back to no string at all..it wont show ANY servers
no matter how many times you hit refresh, update or apply..

or how about when you single click on a server to get the details
and it sits there for like 45 seconds doing nothing..

This server browser is the worst to be included in an online game
EVER, without question.

I thought I'd sum up what's what with setting up the All-Seeing Eye server browser on the BF2 Wiki (the one that works ):

Short version: join a server and it'll bypass all the login BS and EA's dialog, etc. You can also set up great filters to find good games to join. Only flaw is that the server might be filled by the time BF2 starts up, something that's not as much of a problem with the in-game browser.

If someone wanted to put a page up on http://www.shackbattles.com/wiki/ind.../Battlefield_2 about how to fix XFire, that'd be worthwhile (I don't use XFire, yet).

This server browser is the worst to be included in an online game
EVER, without question.

You aren't kidding!!!

We moved to a dual processor system and had to change IP's. People are saying it was difficult to find the new server by 'browsing'

The server browser has tons more wrong with it that just this..

I was hoping EA/DICE would fix it with 1.03, but apparently theyre
not capable.

How about fixes for these problems;

You single click on a line to get the info to refresh and it sits there
for 45 seconds doing nothing.

You type in '24' into the server name string box, it returns a couple
dozen servers, but then you go to erase the 24 and refresh and it
shows NONE, no matter how many times you hit update / refresh / apply.

You login to your account name, click multiplayer, and the browser
wont even come up for 2 minutes.

Here are some other problems..

Why are the pings so out of whack
to reality? You load the list and no pings are between 0-80 but everything
starts at around 110 or so.. Other games makers seem to have no problem
having a GOOD server browser...

Why does the server report 18/24 players but not show any names on
the list below..

Why does the server browser not show ALL the servers with your
search string, i.e. "24" but yet, it only shows SOME of them ?

Why is there no buddy list ? How hard could that be ?

This is by far the worst piece of code within a online gamer I have
ever seen.. Games that were made 6 years ago have better server
browsers..i.e. UT99

You all know the issues with the browser. This was just one quick fix for the filters I should have reworded the topic. But anywho havn't been on bf2 lately to tink around with a few things and see if theres a workaround of some sort for some of these other issues. I just mainly search for the servers filter wise not by name or anything. Anywho If I find anything out I'll post here but anyone else who knows these problems seriously tink around with htem trouble shoot a bit see if it's only certain things that doesn't work try modifying dif things to see if you get any different results then tie them into the other thoughts or ideas you might've had and wallah you got a workaround if your heads in the right place. I'll give it a whack no promises but anywho I'll post here.

thank u that helped me so much i was wondering why after like 2 times i could update the server list then it would stop and now it works every time and finds lower pings servers lol i had 7 checked to lol thx for the help

the thing is mine DOESN'T UPDATE AT ALL no metter what i do.

When i first fire up bf2 it will find the internet servers but if i click 'update server list' by trying too narrow it down or just too refresh it finds nothing.

No, but this is the mentality of EA / DICE..

band aids on broken arms..

the whole server browser was JUNK. I could have written one better
in about 2 hours..

I took my BF2 back and got a refund.. the game is junk, played by mainly
kiddies and lamers.

As long as I set it to the filters that I want and I leave it when I restart BF2 (Whiole application) it will work.

It was great to know that 6 was the magic number thanks for that.

Alot of people have said that they dont see any servers at all even if they dont have more than 6 filters checked and have to restart the game. One workaround for this that always works for me when this happens is to click the LAN game button, wait 5 seconds and then click back to internet game and hit refresh (or whatever its called in your language, i got the swedish version.)

Try it out and se if it works for you too.

Basically use only 6 filters instead of selecting all the ones you want. I don't care wich ones you use just select 6 filters of your choice.

You gotta be joking. You call this a fix? It's like saying, hey, I know how to fix the Red Tag Bug... just don't pay attention to it, and all will be fine.

What if someone wants to use 7 or more filters, because they fit his desires? You did fix nothing, you just noticed when the bug appears, and when it doesn't.

I may even say more. If you want to use a larger set of filters, you'd have to set them first, and then - unfortunately - restart BF2. When you go to the Multiplayer tab, the server list is being updated with the filters you have chosen before, and which have been saved since then. The server list will again go blank if you click anything other than apply filters !DURING! the initial server update, or refresh - which can be pressed anytime. Also - never press enter in the server list.

I know this is very ****ty, but proves 100% on my copy of the game. I'm playing with all filters but BattleCommo and BattleRecorder checked.

Sorry to dissappoint you Kill|Switch, but what you have written here cannot be considered as a fix. So you have no reason to call people dummies.

EDIT: Oh, I would forget... I think the increased ping that is shown on the server list, and which proves not to have much in common with the actual ping after joining the game, is a Punkbuster issue. Exactly the same thing happened in America's Army - you'd also get pings like 120-200, which after joining, change to relatively good 50-80. Perhaps Punkbuster eats up some of your transfer in the first seconds of joining the selected server, that's why server lists also show increased numbers of it.

still having problems looking for the servers i got told some (most) were down for repare or somthing like that but got told it would only take a coupol of hrs and its taken over a day now
