power supplie?

Hey, i just baught a geForce 6600. I installed it, evrything went well, and at the end, realised my power supplie was to low, i ahve 250 W, and it needs 350 W.
Anyone know if its complicated to install sum extra power? I know its cheap, and i prefer doing that than bringing back the video card for a less performent one.

If adding power supplie is simple, try explaining me aswell:)

Ok, you should get at least 400w powersupply from a good brand like ANtec, OCZ, or Enermax. To determine if it's good, look at the +12v rail, for single rail PSUs, look for at least 20amps, for dual rails, combined (added together) look for at least 28amps.

very easy to install. unplug all the old molex connectors and the power line to the mobo (sometimes there are 2) then unscrew the four screws holding the PSU into the case and put the new one in. hook all the molex and Main board power connectors back up and reboot.

I agree, with todays computers a 400watt PSU of GOOD quality (Antec, enermax, SPI, and thermaltake) should be used. a high quality 350watt PSU should do the job.

keep in mind if you have a dell, hp, Emachine etc etc, that you might not be able to just upgrade the PSU as those PC's tend to use a custom PSU designed for their cases.

Im acctually on a HP computer... how do u know if its custom case? and if it is, what can i do about it?

well you can look at it for one. not sure about HP but I know that sometimes companies like that use a psu that is desinged to fit their case, where as a store bought PSU might not bolt up. you can buy a new one then see if it works or better yet call HP and see what they say.

Yeah, usually companies have their own setup. Sony for one, has their own type of case, with a special motherboard, and powersupply. Brand name manufacturers pre-built comps are going to be a pan for installing PSUs.

I just had to buy a new power supply because I got a new vid card (X850XT). I have a Gateway system, so the mounting was totally different. (which is one reason that I will NEVER buy another comp from dell or gateway) But, fortunately I am very mechanically inclined. Nothing I can't do... along with a few power tools & Construction adhesive. LMAO!! But seriously, I only had to drill new holes for the mounting screws. Piece of cake!

yaa thank god for this post cuz i got a new vid card and a new psu and my screws didnt fit and my psu is not supported but duct tape, any suggestions is their some thing im missing?

i dont know man, i dont know what to do, risk to by a psu that wont fit, or return my geforce 6600 for a 6200 which will work will my lame 250 w psu... erg!

Contact HP and ask them for help. They should be able to tell you what PSU's will fit.
