You'll never be able to run even mid settings with that PC. Celeron is about the worst processor you could choose. But, if I were you, I'd upgrade your vid card to a 6600GT, that MIGHT allow you to turn some settings up to mid. It costs around $140 for one of those right now I think. But the rest of your system is very mediocre, so I wouldn't invest TOO much in upgrades. For example, it would be pointless for you to get, say, a 7800GT video card.

And don't listen to the guy above me, don't get more RAM because you'll still be bottlenecked by the junky processor. And if you do, get 1GB so you can run it in dual channel mode. Getting only an extra 512 is almost pointless.

You'd be best served by updating your video card.

Discrediting my post isnt helpful when you dont know what your talking about. BF2 is more ram and video card dependent than processor dependant. Yes the celeron is not a good gaming processor but for bf2 his 2.8 is good enough. I actually built a pc for a friend who "against my wishes" opted to buy the 2.8 celeron D instead of a p4 or AMD processor. I put it together for him and hes running that 2.8 celeron D , only 512 ram and a 9800Pro with all settings at medium. upgrading a processor doesent do much for this game when you already have that 2.8
the topic starter already has 1 gig of ram so upgrading the processor for this game is not necessary to run at medium settings. Grabbing a better card was good advice and for right now is all he needs.

Also you are wrong about the RAM. No matter what you say , I can say from experience of building 2 pcs in the past month for friends who wanted to play bf2 putting more ram creates a profound effect on the overal smoothness of play and gets rid of the choppy beginnings of loaded maps. On my own rig for example the extra 512 not only runs things silky smooth now but when I exit the game i dont sit for minutes listening to the background music as it unloads .
He didnt even say how many ram slots he has or is using on his mobo so assuming adding 512 will sacrfice dual channel is silly. 3 512 sticks or 4 512 sticks is fine. example: im running an nforce2 mobo with a 1 gig stick in slot 1 and a 512 stick in slot 2 and this did not sacrifice dual channel.

I discredited your original post because it was apparent you didn't know what you were talking about... There are SO many ppl like you who say "I run on hi w/ X amount of RAM and X video card...", which is nowhere near enough information to determine whether it will work for the thread-starter who'se seeking help.

I'm glad you built your own computer, but I'm saying that he will need 2GB of RAM and a good video card to even THINK about running on high, let alone smoothly. That said, it's still pointless. You're right that BF2 is not as processor-intensive as other games like HL2, but he will still face a significant bottleneck with that crapola processor, regardless of how good the rest of his rig is. Even if it does give him good gains in BF2, he's still wasting his money on upgrading an outdated platform. It's like putting blingy 20" wheels on a Ford Pinto. It just doesn't make sense.

If I were him, I'd upgrade the video card, be happy running on medium, and start saving for a new computer.
