The rank shouldn't even be in the game. A Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps would never see combat unless someone happened to attack a base he was visiting. This man (or woman) travels and visits with enlisted personel and families, when he isn't doing that I imagine he is in Washington advising the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

EVERY member of the USMC is a soldier. That's sounds rhetorical or cliche', but it's true. EVERYONE has to qualify on a regular basis and EVERYONE must keep a physical standard. This is why I have so much respect for the USMC...every one of them is a bad ass...all the way down to the little girl who joined to be a cook. I'll be the first to admit that she could probably put a hurtin' on me.

But, speaking specifically, you're right in the fact that they would not throw such a highly vaulable person to the front lines of battle...just like a General or other hgih ranking long term soldier. There is too much money and time invested to have some jihad punk pop him in the head. But, if it came down to it, you best bet your ass that the Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps is THE most devoted soldier you'd ever meet. That's the reason he's the SMMC!

it's a game pal, and there are never going to be 2000 people having the requirements for that rank, and someone has to be the best player, so he gets a reward, simple as that

Aye, I would expect him to fight like any other Marine should the situation warrant. Having him in the game though is kinda like having the Commandant of the Marine Corps in the game as the commander of the USA team. They should give the best performing NCO a medal each month instead of promoting him to an appointed rank.

It should be interesting to watch how ranks play out as Dice (or whomever) tweaks the system as we go along. It would be interesting if the Officer ranks branch off based on a mixture of command points and global points.

Nope, I used to play MMOs (AO, SWG, and WoW) and I quit altogether because I was so frustrated with it, I could spend days, weeks, months trying to get junk for my characters but some other guy would always get them before me. So I'm not bothered anymore by it, I stopped caring in a way :laugh: but I still like to collect badges and medals, it's fun IMO. Don't let it bother you, it's not that big a deal :)

i agree. don't worry about the ranks so much. especially now that guns are so easy to unlock.

Worst argument ever. There is only one SgtMaj of the Marine Corps. There is only one spot at the top of the leader boards. If you made a SgtMaj of the MEC or PLA how do you decide which is better?

What kinda of BS is that? I'm sorry but there are how many players playing the game? In real life there are more than just 1 Sergean Major of the Corps in the world. Yeah yeah.. it's a game. I know spare me the idiot talk.
So 1000 players have the requirments, who gets the rank? The one with no life playing the game 16 hours a day, or the one who just got the requirments 2 seconds ago and lucked out and got it?
If you're going to have ranks, let everyone have the chance to get it.

The most dedicated player gets it. That's OK, so long as all the other ranks are relatively reasonably attainable.

i think they took sergeant major of the corps rank out of the game and added officers instead, ubar may be wrong. just have to wait till someone gets to 200,000k (if thats even the real requirement) to see what the next rank is. i think some of the leaders have said their progress to next rank bar in BFHQ is blank, which could mean 2nd lt isnt a point required rank, it could be something else
