ASE is The All Seeing Eye. It's just an out-of-game browser that lets you automatically join games that your friends are in, etc.

Use Qtracker from Qtracker.com instead, it's free & has friends list.

You don't have to pay the $15 a year for ASE. You just have to put up with the nag window every 7 days if you don't (which isn't bad at all, it doesn't delay closing the dialogue box, making you read it, like some trials and things do), and you still get a good amount of functionality.

Although I'll give Qtracker a try, for the hell of it.

Hmm,
I tried QTracker, and while it's not bad, I didn't like that it doesn't have support for player profiles. (I have two for ASE, because the new command lines must be unique to a player's BF2 account, and I have 2 BF2 accounts.) I found refreshing kinda slow too, but pretty good for a free program. I'll be sticking with ASE though. Hasn't failed me yet, and I've been using it for nearly more than 3 years now.

I bought a lifetime subscription for the ASE well over a year ago before Yahoo bought them out...they seem to be honoring it too :)

Since 1.03, ASE has not worked for me. It stops at the new info window. Anyone else have this issue and found a solution?

They show what server they are on and allow you to join them on that server instantly.

Xfire = other player must have Xfire installed and running to work
ASE = other player does NOT have to have ANYTHING special installed*

* ASE is currently experiencing a bug with BF2 that does not retrieve the entire player list from a BF2 server
