I think you maybe close to the answer however, I think if you got Master Sergeant because of your points and for the fact you did not have the basic badges, not this glitch, then I belive if you earn your basic badges while a Master Sergeant then you will be promoted to Sergeant Major not a Master Gunnery Sergeant when you hit the 50,000 points.

So using your diagram i think the possible rank paths are:

Gunnery Sergeant
/\
[Master Sergeant]______[First Sergeant]
/_\____\
[Master Gunnery Sergeant]____________[Sergeant Major]

PS: While there is no diffenece between Master Sergeant and First Sergeant OR Master Gunnery Sergeant and Sergeant Major, I earnt my badges and I should be ranked accordingly.

the thing is, first sergeant requires all the basic class badges, but sergeant major requires all the basic class badges plus the rest (explosives, commander, transport, armour, helicopter etc) effectively, all the basic badges.

so if you ran into the basic/veteran glitch with the knife or pistol you still wont be able to get to sergeant major and youll just go to master gunnery.

IF, however, you got promoted to master sergeant, then got the basic badges without any glitching, you will move onto sergeant major. so the bottom line is

glitched badges = master serg/master gunnery
unglitched badges = first serg/serg major

Master Sergeant might equal First Sergeant in your eyes. but in my eyes one is for noobs and one is for players like me who earnt all their basic badges already.
sure its the same amount of points but First Sergeant is more pristegious. this thread is pointless and is just complicatedly stating the obvious. It is still a bug and i want to be first sergeant because thats what i should be.

bug not only does not lets you move up in rank, but to get medals, like that one that needs all basic badges

yeah well the author of this thread has no idea wtf is going on like the rest of us and there has been no official word from ea about the ranks yet so until then you are all noobs

Im a master sergeant who got shafted on the first sergeant because of the pistol bug. anyway, im over 50k now, and no upgrade in rank yet, im guessing its because of the servers. But HOPEFULLY assuming everything is ok, i should be a sergeant major because i do have all the badges (except that damn pistol bug)

but, if my fears are correct, then the pistol bug will affect the sergeant major ranking as well, and ill ge tshafted with master gunnery sergeant instead....*sigh*

ill find out in the morning i hope.

So, if i understood correctly, you had the pistol/knife bug and still got Sgt. Major ?

If that is correct, then why can people not get to be First Sgt. with the pistol/knife bug ....

...another thing, will this bug effect the medals too ?

for example, the combat infantry medal, you need all basics. But with the current bug, will this stop you from having this medal ??

i believe if you meet the requirements for sergeant major (the badges) then u skip over master gunnery sergeant...but if you dont meet the reqs then your just a regular master gunnery sergeant.

i believe the pistol bug doesnt affect sergeant major because i believe sergeant major looks at a different set of badges (according to bf2s)

go to ubar, and see for yourself.

you dont need to be First Sgt, to get to the higher ranks.
Its just as the thread starter describes it.


The reqs. for Master Gunny, is NOT First Sergeant !, its Master Sgt.

And from Master Gunny, you skip Sgt. Major, and go directly to 2nd Lt.

And as First Sgt, youre going to Skip Master Gunny.
